Medicine ???

I need to know a good alternitive to Doxycycline (by DAC) that will treat overall problems but is different enough that birds that have grown immune to Doxycycline will be able to use it.

Any suggestions? I usually use Global Pigeon supplies, Foy's and Pigeon USA for supplies.

Hi Sandy
What are you actually treating for?
This is one of the tetracycline family of drugs which have been around for years and a lot of bacteria are now immune to this family. It seems to cover a wide range of complaints and I use two drugs to cover this range. I use trimethoprim sulpha - brand name Bactrim, Cotrim, tribrissen, Septra or sulphatrim for non specific gut bacterial infections and coccidia overloads, and Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid - brand name Clavamox for those such as respiratory infections or deep wounds. I understnad both these drugs can be bought without prescription in the States.

The infectious organisms are recurring, and whether they're true pathogens or not, they have mutated and grown resistant to your old standby medication.

Are you using plain chlorine bleach in the drinking water and keeping the loft really clean? No offense intended--just covering the bases.

There are do's and don'ts with bleach--like don't combine it with medications in the water.
