Multiple Mates?Have had a problem for a couple of months now with 2 Hens wanting to use the same nesting box. They have both been mated with the same male. There are 3 other males in the avairy without mates. There are also 4 unused nesting boxes. Both hens and the male were feeding the last babies. There are now 3 eggs in the nest, (I guess I should have marked them), within 3 days.
Has anyone else had this problem? |

This is fairly common. At the moment we have 3 pairs like this, males with 2 hens. Very frustrating, because as in your case, we have extra males all over.
The only thing I could think of if you want to put a stop to it would be isolate one of the hens for awhile, and then introduce one of your single males. As long as the hen can't see her old mate, she should accept her new mate sooner or later. Re-introducing them to the group can be tricky, you'd have to be watchful and make sure she doesn't go right back to her first mate. I'm sure some folks who have had more experiance with pairing birds off with new mates will be along shortly, the way i understand it with many racers they're often assigned a new mate each year. Best of luck!!!
