My stupid duck killed my bird

I had both my babies outside yesterday for fresh air and sun and the bulbul flew off and my stupid duck killed him. It was so quick, there was nothing I could do, but feel horribly guilty for allowing this stupid accident to happen.

Awww...sorry to hear that Hilary. It could have happened to anyone so try not to feel guilty. What kind of duck and was it a pigeon squab that was killed?

He's a stupid black domestic duck that I rescued from from terrible conditions in someone's cage. The bird was a bulbul that my pigeon Hercules had been taking care of

Oh ok Hilary, Don't be mad at the duck...I know it's hard but they don't know what they're doing, they just do these things sometimes. Still, I'm sorry for your loss.

take care,
Brad

Thanks guys. Yeah, I know I can't blame the duck, but it is easier to blame the stupid duck than myself!!!!

I swear I'm jinxed - every time I take photos of my birds, one of them dies. Just like I took photos of Appollo, she died, then I took photos of bulbul and he died!!! I will be posting pictures of Hercules and the two babies soon

That's good Hilary, and it'll help the healing process for you. Good luck with the new ones.

Hilary,
I don't have to tell you how sorry I am about this incident. Who could have expected something like this?
Hilary, I don't know much about ducks. Is it normal for a duck to kill another bird like this? Do they eat smaller birds?

Hi Fred

I don't believe they eat smaller birds, although they do eat insects and stuff. I think stupid just got a fright and snapped out. He's really big and the ducks I got yesterday are much smaller than him and he's not at all aggressive towards them. He also shares space with a bunny who he does not bother at all.

I saw a duck attack a pigeon, once. It was in a park. The duck was whipping the tiny pigeon back and forth - in the water.

It was a female mallard, but there weren't any ducklings visible - though it was that time of year.

As i watched from a bridge above, one of the swans that own that lake swam by, cut the duck off from the pigeon, and chased the duck away. No lie!

That allowed the pijjy to float to shore, where i grabbed it and took it home. And released it later.
