Need help in ArizonaOk, I admit this doesn't really have anything to do with pigeons, but I'm not sure where else to turn since the Urban Wildlife Society here in Phoenix doesn't seem to exist anymore
![]() We have a blind baby sparrow we rescued a few days ago. It's been a miracle that he has survived as long as he has and he just keeps getting healier by the day. He manages to eat on his own, we give him vatamins and antibiodics but we really want to get him to a vet just to be sure he's as healthy as he can be. Only problem is, we've tried. The vet won't allow us to keep the bird and won't inspect him. "It's a wild bird and it's a very bad idea... blah blah blah" A blind baby sparrow won't stand a chance in the wild, the vet knows that and any rehabber knows that. He's doing well in his cage however, knows how ot eat, when to eat and where to eat, etc. So.... does anyone know how we can get this bird some medical attention without having a vet sentence him to death???? |

These assholes like your vet have so much hubris that nothing can be out of place in their world lest they be inconvenienced or have to think, or do something generous for a change; deplorable, and I hope he gets what he gives, it always works that way eventually. Good luck with that little guy.

It is amazing that you have achieved so much in so little time! This is one sparrow that deserves long life and happiness which I know that he will find with you.
Any chance of finding a different and more sympathetic vet? There are some out there! Cynthia

Just got Sweet Pea back from the rehabber tonight (A nice group of people, I'd have to say). He was given a little medication and a clean bill of health; Good news for him!
He'll make it. Just needs some time to adjust. His face is covered with a scab that was partially covering one eye. He is blind in that eye and his other eye is still covered by a large scab. We have some ointment to help soften it up and tomorrow we'll see if his other eye is intact. He may even have a girlfriend coming his way soon (same age who's unable to walk) if his luck holds up ![]() |

Great news Brian & Amy.
Were you able to get him in to see Nancy or one of the other rehabbers? Many thanks for taking the time to care for this little sweetie. Glad things are working out. Please keep us posted. Cindy
