Hello,

Congratulations on your new arrivals.

Please remember to keep your new birds separate from the pigeon, just to avoid the spread of diseases. Keep them separate from each other, too, if they came from different places.

From what I have heard parrots can kill pigeons bevcause their beaks are so much sharper and stronger. Birds fight for the best nesting spaces in cages, so I would not put parrots and pigeons together. Even pigeons and doves can be incompatible, with the smaller weaker bird getting injured or killed.

I brought up a thread called [Oh! I've named some pigeons today! ]

It has many nice names in it if you need one for your bird.

Absolutely do not cage hookbills and pigeons together. They could transmit disease to one another not to mention the very distinct possibility of the pigeon being killed by the parrot.

I have had parrots that have spent years together and then kill eachother, so not cool. Mostly old breeder Budgie hens.

For names I love to use Veggie tales and the Chronicles of Narnia. My vet just loves the list of bird names we have.

HI....The pijjy pair is doing fine, infact the female has started sitting in her nesting box a lot. Drake stands outside it a lot..he is not showing much affection twards the new female...he was nuts over his ex, snuggling cooing etc.
I dont keep the parrots and pigeons together..the parrots are babies wid thier pin feathers showing..n the feathers just sprouting. They are quite tame now and start sceaming when they hear my voice. I have named them Earnie and Elmo. Parrots are wid me in the house......Nice names Christina...my sisters wanted to lift names from the lord of the rings book...(Tinuviel , LUTHIEN ,ELENDIL) but i wanted more parrot-like names ! lol, so earnie n elmo they are...and quite a handful.

PS: readin about birdcrops n handfeeding on this site was quite helpful...now i know when to feed or stop.!

Sally Blanchard (if you don't know who she is yet) has a lot of great inforamtion on raising parrot chicks. Her magazine is The Companion Parrot Quarterly and she has a website that is great with lots of articles.

Glad you are having fun with your new friends!
