New Babies

Hello everyone,

for the first time, there are two new born in my loft. Parents are white homers and I hope the kids turn out white too. Because the parents have few black spots (hardly visible) and therefore, grand parents may not all white. I can hardly wait.

Anyway, I have a question for the experts out there. In how many days, you have to slide in the ring? I don't want the ring to get entangled or something and end up being a deformed leg etc...

many thanks

Hello there,

Are these homing pigeons? Depending on the size of the breed, and how fast the babies are growing, I would check to band the babies from the 5th day to 7th day. Check everyday, cause if you skip a day, it might be impossible to get it on.

Hi treesa,

These are homers. Today, May 9th, is 5th day. I will check today and see if I can wait for few days. Seems they are growing faster.

Thanks Treesa,

hi congradulations on your new ones. first are the bands you have are for homers, the bands do come in different sizes. homer bands should be 3/8 i.d. (inside measurment) put the band on the 5 day and check it for the next 3 days. i have skipped the 5 day once and the band would not go on. lots of luck.
