Pigeon Markings and Ugly Duckling Update...

Hey Everyone....
It just never ceases to amaze me how many different colour variations that can come out of a pair of pigeons. You guys know that I have a soft spot for toy breed mixes. I just had to share a pic of a pair that just came out of their nest box. Their parents were both mixes (Sat / Owl I think!), and did not even come close to looking as pretty as these babies. I know it's just baby plumage, but I hope it sticks around thru a moult. The pic doesn't really show the wonderful purple colours on the wing...

Ugly Duckling Update

A while ago I posted a pic of my Pouter Baby which also has completely different colours than his Mom and Dad... I called him an Ugly Duckling cause he seemed so weird looking with his long neck and beak. Here is what he looks like today... He is turning out to be a nice large handsome bird...His Mom is beside him in the lower pic.....

And these are just a couple pics of Berliner mix babies that again look very different from their parents... These short beaks are too cute, and are definitely one of my favourites in the flock....

Hey Jimmy,

Great pictures as always, they are all so sweet and beautiful! Your little satinette/owl cross breed babies are absolutely adorable and very unusual in colour! Keep us updated on these two and it would be nice if they retained the colours somewhat.

The pouter (ugly duckling) sure turned into a beautiful "swan" afterall and BOY, what a long body he has!!!! He's so slim and his body just looks to be all length. Those wings of his must be huge when spread out!

The little berliners are so cute The one of them has a really hooked beak on him...almost like a less pronounced cockatiel.

They are beautiful, Jimmy! AND .. let's keep in mind that there is no such thing as an ugly duckling (or squab for that matter)

The wing feathers are extraordinarily beautiful. If they manage to keep those wing patterns, they will indeed be quite beautiful when they become adults.

Very beautiful birds, Jimmy. I especially like the one of the Pouter and parents, although all the babies are just precious.

They are just too adorable, every one of them.
Gotta love those faces.

I want one of the Satinette/owl mix, & the berliner!!!

I love my Satinette babies (Reti calls them baby dolls), that is what they are, cute and cuddly and can make wonderful house bird pets.

You don't realize how different they are if you only have racing pigeons. I just want to grab them and hug them, especially my oops baby Satinette. He is sooo cute, he holds his ground and pecks my hand when I come near. He is tame enough not to be scared, but not so tame that he will let me pick him up. He looks cute, cuddly, but annoyed with me.

JJimmy, as usual, all the pictures are wonderful but I must say the pouter baby is my favorite. He just towers over his mom and the other pigeon. Looks like he is posing. It will be interesting to see him as he matures.

Jimmy,

What a beautiful group you have there...the colors on the first group are so striking...I've never seen that purplish color before. The last set w/ those cute little beaks are adorable. But, what a change for "Ugly Duckling." Who would have guessed that such an awkward looking baby would turn out so handsome.

Thanks for sharing....I enjoy seeing all of your animals!

Linda
