Pigeon update

Well, the little banded pigeon who semed to be having some breathing problems over the weekend is doing fine. Just as Cynthia's Poopsie, he was back to normal by Monday.
Whatever it was, left just about as fast as the onset.
Although I adopt rescued non-releasable pigeons, they are usually ones that are flight impaired. Since this little sweetie is not & I don't have the enclosed space he needs to fly, Treesa has offered to adopt him where he can enjoy her newly expanded aviary along with her other pijjies.
"Many thanks Treesa".

Pij:
Since he is doing so well & has shed his PMV symptoms, I let him out each morning while I clean the indoor cages & the AZ room, He loves to hop on the window sill & watch the feral flock. On Monday, as I was sweeping the floor I heard this unusal sound, turned around & Pij had taken flight. Yep, he circled about half of the AZ room. I think we were both equally surprised.

I'm very flattered as I believe I have been 'chosen' to be his 'sweetie'. Every time I go over to his cage he does his usual non-stop cooing, but has now added the circles, then kind of races towards me, does this little 'hop' (it's too funny) then fans his tail as his grande finale.

For at least 5 months, that we know of, Pij was completely withdrawn, unable to steady himself & experienced numerous seizures daily. Today he is a total extrovert & is living life to it's fullest.

Pigeons are priceless!

Hi Cindy,
those are great news.
I am so happy Treesa will adopt the little banded guy. Thank you, Treesa.
She has an awsome aviary, and I saw it only when it was still smaller, but it was beautiful even then.

The news about Pij are fantastic. I bet you are flattered to be his sweetie.
I love their dance and hop. I can watch them forever doing it.
Does he also bite you?

Thank you for the update.

Hi Cindy,

It is great that the racer has recovered and has an excellent home to go to, but Pij's progress is absolutely wonderful news! You have done a superb job there and also opened up a pathway of hope for other PMV victims.

I expect to be releasing Merengue soon and realise that I must also release Mickey, although he has a mate, to make room available for non releasable pigeons. They both are PMV recoveries and both have "attitude" so I am confident that they will be okay back in the city centre but I hate parting with any of my rescues!

Hi Reti,
No, he has never bitten me, however he is just like a child who has been sick & now feeling better & not wanting to take his medicine.
While he is trying to bury his head in an attempt to avoid his medicine, I am reminding him that he needs to take it even though he is feeling better.

Hello Carl,
Thank you for your kind words.

Hi Cynthia,
No matter what, I would have taken Pij in & made him as comfortable as possible, however, after reading about your dedication towards, & experience with, PMV pijjies I realized they can live normally. So I decided Pij & I had a mission to accomplish, & we did!

Educating others that there are treatment plan options for PMV pijjies rather than no option at all is so very important.
