Question about Rollers

I am interested in raising Pigeons.
Rollers look especially interesting to me.
Are there pros and cons to them over other pigeons?
I do not want to race. Just Watch them fly around the house with my grandkids.
I am in North Central Texas.

Also looking for aviary plans.

You don't race rollers, but fly them from your loft. I've heard they can home within a few miles, but I never tried it with mine. They're small and come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. We have reds, yellows, blacks, almonds, bald-heads, and more. Birmingham rollers are said to be good "beginner's pigeons" because they're hardy, easy to raise and handle.

Here's a site with plans for a starter loft: http://www.redroselofts.com/starter_loft.htm But there are many, many good loft plans out there.

You might check the National Birmingham Roller club for members in your area. There are many other breeds of rollers, as well.
