Releasing Young Birds

I have two young pigeons that I have raised since they were barely fully feathered. Now they can fly and I have had them in their own pen (my flyer pen) for about 3 to 4 weeks. I am tempted to release them and see what they do. What is the best way to release them initially, and are these two old enough to be released?

Glen i believe you can let them fly now , They will always come home. Walt

When you decide to release them, do some planning. Release them about 1 or 2 hours before dark, so they will not stray far. Second, release them by opening the door and letting them find their own way out, on their own. Let them seek out the outdoors without pressure. Some people will get them used to dinner time by shaking the can of feed, alerting them it is time to eat. This way, when they are outside, they will come in when they hear the feed can.

I released them today and they returned at dark. They did not venture far but it was a start. I'll release again tomorrow. Thanks again for the info.
