How old is the bird? Where did you get it?
What is the housing and feeding arrangement? Please bring us up to date.

If your bird is growling and pecking at you, it means it has something to fight for. Perhaps it wants to protect itself from invasion. This is OK. Suggest you take it slow with this bird, gradually build trust. Offer feed from your hand. If rejected, place it in front of the bird.
So keep us posted, eh?

Hi BigBird, Vilot is an adult bird. I don't know how old she is. If I put my hand in her cage she will growle and try to bite me. she lives in my bed room with a 18 by 18 wood cage with chicken wire in the front.and a little dog dish with clean water and a little round bowl with keet seed in it and she loves that stuff. And some times I will have the dogs and cats locked up so she can walk around the house and she likes that to.But she won't let me touch her. She still can't fly . Her tail is growing back. See my mom thinks she could have ran over her tail and now she can't fly. Before that happened the bird was eating bird seed from the trash can and wouldn't move. My mom thought that she didn't hurt her and the next day i found her walking and I walked to her to see if she could fly and she couldn't and thats when I brought her in to the family to get better. So please reply.
Thank You

Hi! Bigbird and you will work this out, I'm sure. Pigeons are as individual as people. You will teach each other much!

I'm dropping you a line, just to remind you to supply some "grit" for your pigeon, as she will need this to properly digest food. Any pet store will have it, and it's inexpensive and goes a long way. Put the grit in a separate lid or shallow dish. My pigeon loves dry split peas too! Maybe if you offer these as treats, only when you're around, and give her lots of "space"...

Good luck!

It sounds like you want your bird to accept your kindness, especially your touch. You will first need to remove from the cage. Caged birds are agressive. Once outside, begin getting close, offering food, etc. Start some other activities while the bird is near you, pretend not to notice it. Show affection, don't grab or make swift movements. Eventually the bird will come to know that you can be completedly trusted and then begin to show affection toward you. This will take time so don't be in a hurry.
Good luck,
Bigbird

Hi Ray and BigBird.
Do you think that now that I have Vilots cage open now she will stop growling at me? All she does is sit on my fileing cabnet and sleep. And if she is not doing that she is eating alot of food. Her tail is only this long __________ life size. She can fly only 5 feet across the room and then lands and about 2-2 1/2 feet high in the air. She eats more then any other pigeon I have ever had. She is getting a little fat should I stop feeding her a full bowl of food? She doesn't drink alot of water. And her eyes don't go small when you shine a little in them. But all of my other 12 birds do. Is there something wrong with her eyes?

My birdie does that also. Really, what it is about is that she wants a mate. That's it.
