Special Diet for Bird Releasings

I am a novice at this and am trying to educate myself by reading books, reading about others experience and just plain old trial and error.

My question is this. Is there a special diet for birds that you plan to release? I mean I don't want to have my bird release on my customers, if you know what I mean. Can something be done to your bird before a releasing event?

Joy,
Would you be willing to go into this subject a little more deeply? Are you releasing hand fed young pigeons and are you sure they can forage for themselves? That is the thing I'm concerned about from your post.
Seed is seed and if they are eating seed, there is nothing more that can be said about a special food prior to release.

I am releasing hand fed pigeons. I mean I give them food everyday in a controlled environment. I want to release them for weddings, funerals etc.

Hi Joy,
Are you releasing and have trained them to come back?
You have no idea of what goes on out there in the way of people buying white pigeons for affairs when there is no training for them to come back. They more than less die from starvation and are more prone to the illnesses that are out there.
This post isn't a challenge to you, Joy. If you aren't training them to come home, you will lose money from a business point of view and maybe we can convince you that it is more practical to give that training.
Thanks for responding.

Hi Joy

I rather suspected from your name that you were another "releaser".

We operate a release business too. If you're interested in learning about the business, please join the group at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WHPF/

It's a great bunch there...we all have white pigeons .... some just for fun, some for racing, some to do releases. You can learn all kinds of stuff about raising, training, feeding, health, etc., as well as what is good and ethical in a release business.

Fred is right....there is more to just feeding and releasing. And whites are, for the most part, quite different from other homers, when it comes to their training and breeding. He is also right...there are many people "out there" doing it strictly for profit....they don't give a whit about the birds. The group at Yahoo also works on trying to educate people about the "wrong" way to do things. (such as "shipping for self release")
