stray pigeon.....continued
I got home from a stressful day from work.
As I walked to the house I thought about the pigeon I have taken in and has become a perminant resident at our house. I scoured the roof tops of his favorite perches and could not find him. I looked where his food and water is as he frequently resides there.....no pigeon. As I stood and scanned the skies I saw him nowhere. Then, way way up high in the sky I saw a bird. That couldn't be my bird, he's too high. But as I watched I realized it was. Way above the treetops, way above all other birds, he flew, free. I watched him for what seemed like a long time, flying in great circles, around the property. Loosing sight of him, then seeing him again what seemed like a mile from where I last glimpsed him. Slowly he started to decend. Tighter and tighter circles until he finally came to rest on his favorite peak. It would seem he would be exhausted but he didn't even look tired. What is it about watching this bird who seems to fly for the sheer joy of flying.
The saying "free as a bird" has never meant so much to me.
