Hey, Nick! Why not cross-post this on the "Show Pigeons" forum?

Nick, being a racing pigeons person I think homers/racers made wonderful parents. They won't care if it's a Fantail or not. They will think it's their baby and that will be all they need.

Which would be better for the parents sake? A squab or an egg(s)?

I don't know you so I can't assume you already know this so here goes.......the pumpers need to have laid around the same time as the Fantails. Within 2 to 3 days is good. Sometimes you can go longer but some pairs of birds will stay with their eggs for as long as 30 days and some will get up and walk away on that 19th day so the closer the better. I personally would prefer to put eggs under the pumpers and let them sit and raise the babies. If not, then you have to wait for the pumpers eggs to hatch and the Fantails eggs to hatch and then switch the babies. We've done the eggs before but not squabs. I've been told as long as the squabs are not showing any color the pumpers will except them. But once they start showing color then you run the possibility of the pumpers rejecting them.
