What's going on? Last nightI gave my baby ring-necked dove seeds for the first time. Last night he didn't seem to digest any of them, and they just sayed in his crop. Today, I didn't feed him all day exept for once in the moring and once around 4:30pm. It seems the seeds are slowly emptying. What's going on? Is this bad or good? Did I do something wrong? By the way he's 24 days old. Thanks for listening to my worried mom-ness. Lol.

hello,
I wouldn't change his diet to seed just yet if it is slowing up the emptying of the crop. Slow crop is not a good thing and difficult to overcome. Cynthia

Be sure the youngster is drinking water .. if not you will need to syringe a bit of water and perhaps massge the crop a little to be sure it doesn't become impacted.

Sunflower seeds are not good for babies, please remove them and only give the small seeds like milo and millet..
Also he might need some grit, if he is over a month old I would offer him a little tiny dish of oyster shell pigeon grit. Mary [This message has been edited by maryco (edited April 02, 2004).]

I know. Now whenever I feed him I make sure to pick out the seeds. He does Ok with the other seeds though.
