I suggestyou may want to start from a small group of breeder, learn from the way they react to you maybe I say 3 pairs of breeders or we call it stocks some call them prisoners, anyway learn from there 1st then if you want you can buy 2 pairs and buy another 4 young ones the one that nose is still reddish looking not all white yet, and also if you plan to start with a breeding, start what most people like ask around but I prefer homing pigeons, BlueBars, Checkerds, anything that has a bigger nose and large cere on their eyes, I started 2 yrs ago and so far I have 21 flying for me, I started from 2 cocks and then buy 2 hens then from there I bought some more after they lays eggs and the family grows from there, I did had 2 pairs then 3 pairs and now I think I have about 11 pairs altogether, so thats 22 eggs if they all hatch, but so far I only got 7-2007 clutches (babies)...Wish you luck

Just what I thinkThe White release business is not as easy as it may seem.It seems to have really taken off lately.I have a small group of White Homers due to limited space. My first suggestion is do you enjoy pigeons? Next, read or acquire all the info you can before you purchase any birds. There is work involved in taking care of pigeons and keeping your birds healthy. I purchased 4 breeders two years ago and now have 10 flyers but I have still not released for payment yet. I also would suggest the book White Pigeons the Color of Money. Foy's Pigeon supplies and several other suppliers have this book.

White homersYou will need white homing pigeons. There are lots of people that sell white homers , I found mine on the internet. The prices will vary just depends on how much you want to pay. I would suggest not being in a hurry. Take your time and check out several different sellers. Then you will need to decide if you want breeders or young birds. Breeders will have to be prisoners and can't be released. You will raise babies from them and train the babies to be your flyers for your loft. You can buy young birds and break them to your loft. I chose breeders because if I was going to spend money I didn't want to take a chance of losing them, lots of things can happen in the air , Hawks , power lines , etc.

I am doing a lot of research. There is an annual barnyard swap coming up in May. I've seen lots of pigeon fanciers there in the past and hope to talk with some this year. I might even purchase from one of them if they seem to have healthy happy birds. I was hoping I could handle or observe someone handling a few pigeons there and see what their personality was like. I'll wait and see where I am at that point. |
