Would a Feather Tether be ok to use on Sweetie?I saw this item I never knew was out. I would like to see how Sweetie manuevres her leg. I would like to see how she walks if she can. I would also like to make sure that if she wants to fly, that the Feather Tether doesn't hurt her. Can you give me some advise on what size (if it is safe enough for her) she would wear? Sweetie is bigger than a Cockatil and smaller than a Cockatoo. The website I saw this on was on this site: http://www.claviaryonline.com/ftetherins.html. I thought it would be nice and
she can find out more how to manuevre her leg, if it doesn't heal right or learn how to work around her disability. What do you think I thought I would ask, Thank you, Sweetie (Victoria Lutes) P.S. I thought it would be good excercise and be good for her to feel a little freedom from the box, instead of me holding her all the time. ![]()

I dont know wether u should or not couse she might not like this. Mabe u should try letteing her walk on her own or is it that u dont want her to fly? I think im talking about what u are talking about but alot of birds dont enjoy this on. I dont see why they would make it if it isnt safe so it prob is but the thing is that i dont know wether she would enjoy this on.

It is a good idea if you want to take your birdie out in the yard, garden or to picnics.
My only concern would be if the bird takes off all of a sudden, I think s/he might get injured. I don't know, I would like to try it also, but that is the only reason that mekes me think twice. Maybe someone on the forum has experience with it and shares it with us. Reti |

I don't have a harness, but I do have the "bird diapers" that I attach a lightweight leash to. I have doves, so they do behave a bit differently, but again it's more of the personality of the bird. I do find that one of them freaks out and tosses all over the place trying to get out of her suit, but the other dove just sits like a rock. Once they are outside they tend to be content with exploring the new territory with their feet and beak, not their wings.

hmmmmm... just a thought, but somehow I find it strange to take an animal that has the gift of flight and put it on a leash so it has to walk.

Birds have no diaphragm so their method of breathing is different to mammals. I have been told that anything tight around the chest area - or that could become accidentally tight, or caught up anywhere - even holding a bird too tightly, can constrict breathing and potentially cause suffocation. Personally. I would not want to take a risk. Others may have a positive experience, of course.
