dead babies my fantails hatched two young they fed and did all the right things then at six days one was dead in the morning the 14 days after the other died it was alright at night was dead in the morning it was well fed had most of its feathers it looks to me as the mother left it to be back with the cock bird any ideas :: |

Sorry to hear the news.
Did any other birds lose their babies? Did the babies show any physical signs that they were hurt? Make sure mom and dad get plenty of calcium sources, like pick cake, and also grit. Have you treated your birds before the breeding season with Globals multi-mix? I use it before breeding (before pairing them up) season to prevent outbreaks of coccidiosis, canker and worms, works great. I'm not saying that was the problem but it really clears up any problems that may develop when birds are already stressed from breeding. I am sorry to hear this... Oh, how sad... Ummmm...can you say, what did their poops look like? Anything unusual there with that? Trichomoniasis can sometimes decimate Babys, while the Adults remain symptomless... Was there any 'yellow' chalky look, to their poops? Phil Las Vegas |

dead babiesThanks folks for the replies babies were or seemed to be perfectly ok night before moving about nest box freely still sad and mystified hen looks asif she is going to nest again and guys I only have one pair these were given to me for my 64 th birthday, but not a beginner used to breed and show budgerigars also was owner of a pet store before retiring
