help with sick parakeet?Hi, everyone,
Sorry that this isn't about a dove or pigeon, but I think I've gotten advice about other birds here in the past, and this is the only place I know where people seem to really know what they're doing! My son's parakeet, Foxy, seems sick. She's had droppings stuck to her vent, and she's a little listless and occasionally puffed-up. I have some Appertex here, and it's done wonders in the past on my sick pigeons. I was wondering if it might be a good thing to use in this case and, if so, what the dosage would be (I've got 2.5 mg pills). Please let me know. My son would be heartbroken if anything happened to his parakeet! Thanks! Nancy |

I do not know the dosages with this med--but it might help others determine it if we knew the little one's weight?

There are a lot of knowledgeable people over at www.talkbudgies.com. I'm sure they would be glad to help you.

Thanks to both of you!
I don't know Foxy's exact weight, but I looked up the weight of an average budgie and found that they're 25-35 mg. They're slightly larger than our diamond doves. Thanks for the referral to talkbudgies.com, Grifter. I just thought I'd try here first because I know (or used to know!) some of the people here, and they've always been very helpful, and I'm already registered here. If it doesn't work out I'll try the other site. ![]() |

Not at the moment, for a couple of reasons. I've given my paralyzed pigeon, Cleo, Appertex on a number of occasions, and it's always taken care of what ails her (and I've had her with me for almost 10 years!). I THINK I've given her one tablet (it's been a while since the last time she was sick).
