I had Muscovys for nearly 20 years and although I don't anymore, I do foster Muschovys that need a home. I've had 2 this past year. Be sure and clip their wings so they don't fly out of your yard and do protect them at night from Raccoons.
My experience is that 3 hens to one male is the best combination. One hen gets too beat up.
I love them too.

Yes, I love mine. I have 4 ducklings. If it turns out to be more than one male I am trading them in for females as they grow up.

Yes, I have Mr. Nibbles II who is a black and white Muscovy drake. His Nibs has some issues with other ducks and geese, but he LOVES me!

I adore Muscovies and though I love all ducks, I think Muscovies are my favorite.

Right now I have a juvenile Muscovy here that came in from Twin Lakes Park in Garden Grove. One of my duck rescue buddies spotted her because a large Muscovy drake that lives at this park would not come over to get food/treats. On investigation, my friend found that the little Muscovy could not stand or walk and surmised that the big drake was guarding the little one. The little one's feet were hard and stiff as if they had been painted with shellac or varnish which had dried and hardened. I tried gently picking at a piece of the stuff, and when it came off, it took the skin with it and bled quite a bit. I've been massaging in antiobiotic cream every day and then doing a foot soak in the evening. Most of whatever this is has finally come off and there is new and healthy tissue underneath.

I agree with Charis on the wing clipping .. Muscovies can fly especially the females and young males who are not yet so heavy. Better safe than sorry!

mine are male and female I think they r brother and sister I wonder if anyone would be interested in trading my blue drake for another color in order to bring a diff color/bloodline into their mix? Its just my current drake is a total sweetheart as in hes very good to his duck, but they are also only this years hatch!

My old pet muscovy was like a dog she would wag her tail and make noise at me everytime she saw me and then sqat and kinda purr when id pet her it was amazing!

My current ones tho dont seem to care much about me yet and seem afraid oh well hopefully in time they will tame down like my other birds

It sure does.
Scuba...they can get very depressed if separated from one they have become attached to so please don't separate them.

Are those blue swedish ducks? They're pretty

Speaking of muscovies, I recently adopted one from the animal shelter around here. I'm the first on the list for the bird rescues. It's a black and white, and I named him/her Lucky Charm When we were leaving the shelter, it had just stopped raining and there were three rainbows in the sky, hence the name. They're great ducks. They can be mean, like the 4 black mottles I had when I was little. I remember once when one flew up on my head and scared the heejeebus out of me BUT they can fly, which is neat to see when they do. It's also a good thing when you have so many dogs running around out here...at least they can get away!

Looking for female muscovies

I just acquired two coloured males and I'm looking for females. If anyone has any available or knows where I might find some I'd appreciate the lead (i live near Kingston, Canada). I used to keep white muscovies to keep the fly population down (I have horses too) and I always wanted coloured ones. I've only had these a couple of days - keeping them in a pen until they get used to their new home, but then they'll be free range. I think they are quite amazing.

They are great meat ducks. That was their original breeding intention. Very superior duck for eating. Teal is about the only better eating duck but they aren't much bigger than a pigeon.

Just A Gentle Reminder Here ..

Please don't post about eating birds that you own or that you hunt here on Pigeon-Talk. It always starts a furor, and it is against the forum rules.

Incidentally, Muscovy ducks are native to Central and South America and are considered an invasive non-native species in many areas of the U.S.

Don't get me wrong .. I love Muscovy ducks and have some as pets and have rescued many over the years and found them good homes.
