Breeding and Showing Budgies

I was thinking of getting Homing Pigeons but Dad said only canaries, parakeets..etc So I chose breeding budgies for colour and shows. I have researched a ton and now know the breeding pattern, how to figure out the colour of the babies...etc But I need some tips from actual breeders and showers out there. Even if they breed cockatiels for shows, I want to know what judges like in the shows and what makes a bird valuable...etc Please help me out here! ^_^
