Ideas On Moving Cockatiels To New Cage

I have two female cockatiels which are getting a new bigger cage on monday. I know it has to be a slow move as they look at anything new in their cage like it has 10 eyes..lol.. so they are funny about change. I was thinking of putting the cage up for awhile next to the old cage and let them just see it.. then perhaps connecting a perch to the new cage so they can explore it.. If anyone has done this before and has some ideas they tried, please let me know. I do not know the history on these birds but they are rescues and not even sure if they have ever been in a cage bigger than 23 x 17, the new one is 37 x 27 and 68 inches high. I have had them for about 6 months now. Thanks in advance.

Is it going to be in the same location?
I switch cages all the time! Just put familiar 'things' (dishes, perches, toys) in the new cage........and move them in. That's what I do and haven't had any problems.

Thanks Waynette! I was afraid I had to do this slow, Yes it will be right next to the one they are in.. I want to put new things in the new cage as I really do not like the tacky stuff that is in the old cage..I want to use the sisal perches instead of the cotton red white and blue ropes..and have a coconut feeder and other things.. Im glad to hear there were no problems with yours.. maybe I won't have to take it as slow as I thought I would.. I will put their bell toys in there and the same dishes...then slowly change them out.. Thanks!

LOL, I bought my Mollucan Cockatoo a new TOY and put it in her 'day cage' (she has a 'night cage' in her own room for bedtime)
When I went to put her in her cage, she fluffed up, spread out her wings and screamed...."WHAT'S THAT!!!!?" She sat on the other side of the cage for half the day 'hiding behind her beak feathers' like the new toy was going to attack her!
Never had a problem switching cages........Just things IN the cage
