How to feed your hungry Pelican

Our first Pelican of the spring - he sure was hungry, and he bunged his beak up somehow. He's going to be OK with some good meals and a couple weeks to recover.

He is so cute. Poor thing, but I am sure he'll be fine under your care in no time.

They normally fish by diving down below the school of fish and then coming up through the school, the water forces the fish down their throats into the gullet, but standing on dry land there isn't any down draft of water to force the fish into the gullet so you have to do it by hand (well Nancy has to do it by hand) she's very good at it, I on the other hand would probably lose a couple fingers in the process.

Mighty handsome fellow in his spring mating hairdo and mating fin, the Pelican babes will fall for him for sure.

Interesting....I bet he was a happy guy once he realized he was getting fed and his tummy wasn't empty anymore.

Thanks for sharing.
