Emus In California Need Homes!

Hello all, I am trying to help support a group effort to help a very kind lady in Monterey, California (near San Fransisco) find great homes for her emus. She has just been overwhelmed with caring for all of her birds due to recent occurrences in her life and needs to find them a new place to live as soon as possible.

She has about 20 adult emus and 18 young 3-5 month old emus available last I heard, and is asking a re-homing fee of $50 per young emu and $175 per pair of adults. You must transport - she will not ship.

They are beautiful and healthy birds, and if anyone is interested in raising high-quality emus or keeping some wonderful pets anytime soon, now is your chance!

Adult emus stand at a height of about 5-6' tall and lay beautiful emerald green eggs during their breeding season. They can be dangerous when threatened and run when frightened, but if treated well are wonderful birds with curiosity and upbeat personalities. A minimum of 1/2 acre fenced with 6' fencing is required for two emus. The fence posts need to be on the outside of the fence so the emus do not rub against them and hurt themselves when walking the fence line. The more area the better, as they love to run and are happier the more space they are given. They do great in large pastures and are wonderful livestock guardians for sheep and goats.

Their natural diet consists of grasses, weeds and green leaves off of nearby trees and they consume much less food if allowed to forage in a fenced area this way. They also require hay and either ratite feed pellets (if you can find them) or rabbit pellet feed mixed with chicken layer pellets made available. An adult emu will pick and choose the hay depending on how much good foraging food there is around and eat about 1 1/2 - 2 pounds of pellet feed per day.

If you have the ability to keep a happy emu and or know someone in California who is interested in giving one or a few of her emus a good home, please send me a pm and I can hook you up to get an emu of your very own!

Have a great day,

- Faith

Awesome looking birds!

What a sight that would be to have on a farm!

She must not be in too much of a hurry to find homes. Not exactly what I would call "re-homing" prices though nontheless on the lower end.

The lady who is re-homing them absolutely loves her emus and greatly enjoys seeing them around her farm, but cannot care for most of her birds any longer due to recent health and such and really wants to see them go to someone who can give them a great place to live. The ideal place would be a large green pasture with a pond/lake - emus love space and hilariously sprint around the land chasing each other and having fun. They also surprisingly love water and love to be sprayed down on a hot summers day or take a swim in a small lake.

She actually already sold 2/3 of her original number of emus and previously sold them for $150 per juvenile and $400 per pair. Although it may seem like her re-homing fee (or price, however you want to put it) is a little high, the exotic meat market pays more per bird than what she is currently asking. Hopefully someone else in California who has not already acquired some of her birds has the space on their land and in their heart for emus!

Unfortunately I cannot keep emus in my current location, as there are too many trees here and I do not have enough open space for the type of large pen/small pasture they require to be happy. Hopefully some day I will relocate or buy some property which a bird of their size can live on and roam. They are gorgeous

If she could get them to Canada. I already have an ostrich as I run a farm animal sanctuary, Free to be Me. They would have a forever home.
