Looking for free or cheap fancy pigeons in SOCAL

Hi everyone! i'm a new member here and i hope someone can help me. I live in southern california and i had been a pigeon lover since i was a little kid. back home (philippines) my uncle used to race hundred of racing pigeons, that is how i got into having pigeons as pet. I'm now 32 and wish to start raising pigeons again, I have a built in small loft in my backyard. At the moment i have 3 different breeds. I wish to add more breed to my collections. I try looking online and found eggbid.com, most of the birds there are not near southern california. I'm in a tight budget and have a set income. If anyone here would be kind enough to tell me any fancier around my area who are down sizing their loft and are willing to give some breed away or sell them at a cheap price, i will be very interested to know. Hopefully someone can help me out. thanks for taking the time to read my ad and have a great day.

PS: I'm looking for a male fantail to pair my female fantail (her mate died after 1yr & 1/2) also interested in breeds like oriental frills/pheasant/jacobins/nun/and any type of pigeon owl/poulter and also needed a male homer pigeon to pair my female (i just got her today from a feed store). Hi Yancy and welcome to Pigeon-Talk! There are a whole lot of pigeons needing homes all the time. Check our adoption forum regularly. Also check the websites for the local animal shelters/humane societies .. you'll be surprised what you might find there.

I am in South Orange County in Lake Forest .. where are you? I rescue pigeons and sometimes get in some very nice fancy, racing, and roller pigeons that need to find a good home.

Also, go have a look at Magnolia Bird Farm .. lots of fanciers sell their birds to Magnolia when they are overloaded or simply don't want the birds. If you look carefully, you can find some good ones for way less than $10.00 each.

You could also consider joining the Los Angeles Pigeon Club and get some help from the members there.

Hi YANCY,Welcome to Pigeon Talk I may be able to help you.I live in Oceanside, where do you live we may close by,in any event let us know what city you live in.If you live in SAN DIEGO area you could join the SAN DIEGO METRO CLUB we have people that breed some of the birds that you are looking for,the breeds that I have are Racing homer, American Show Racers, Saddle homers,and Italian Owls. In November there will be a show in San Bernardio that 20,21,22 of NOV.There are birds for sale at that show the show is free,but there is a parking fee of $5 dollars. GEORGE

Thanks Terry & George, that was a quick response. you guys have no idea how hard i've been looking for fancy pigeons. I was wondering if you guys know any swapmeet around my area that might also sell pigeons? I bought my pair of fantails almost 2 years ago for just $10 each, but like I said the male fantail died, he got sick. I want to get her a mate, she seems lonely in my loft (cause my other pigeons are mated) I live in La Puente, CA by the way. I check the animal shelter around my area, and the only one that have pigeon is the orange county one, but they are king pigeon, and they are too big for my cage, i need smaller breeds. I checked magnolia bird farm before, but they only have regular pigeon they said, but i'm free to look around, but i never bothered, i might actually visit them this weekend to check it out personally, thanks for the advice terry. Also thanks for the info george. I have have to join that clun you were talking about and see the expo this nov. that would be great if i can get some of the breed i'm looking for to add to my collections. Welciome aboard! Here's a couple suggestions:

The Los Angeles Pigeon Club holds its monthly meeting on the second Thursday of each month just up the road from you in El Monte at Lambert Park, 1 block west of Peck Rd., just south of Lower Azusa. There is kind of a pigeon swap meet in the parking lot untill sundown, and the meeting starts at 7:30.

Pomona Valley Feed in Pomona on Mission Blvd. sells quite a number of fancy birds as well as almost any kind of pigeon supplies. The owner is a lifelong fancier and is a strong supporter of the LAPC.

If you can make it, try to get to the Pageant of Pigeons show at the Orange Show Fairgrounds, starting Thurs. Nov. 20 through Sat. Nov. 22...Come early on Sat., as the show closes at 3PM. Lots of fancies on sale in the for sale section, often at reasonable prices.

Just went to the "Pomona Valley Feed" all they have a regular looking pigeons, there might be a couple of rollers and a few racing homer, but that's about it. they are all trap in a small cage, the birds don't look healthy/happy to me, i will try to make it to the every 2nd thursday of the month thing, thank you again for the info.
