...In Remembrance...I had a pigeon. Her name was Isabelle. She died today.
It was due to a complication of paratyphoid, canker & fungi infection. Rodents had entered my pigeon coop and infected their food. And the antibiotics probably triggered off secondary infections, and I couldn't save her, and believe me, I tried. My heart is heavy. Isabelle often gave me company when I was alone, and sometimes she used to make me smile. She used to do the simplest of things, but it made a big impact on me. For example, she used to fly back and perch on my hand when I gave her a gentle push and made her airborne. She walked up and sat on my hand whenever I put my palm in front of her, its like she could read my mind! When I brought my finger close to her beak, she used to open her mouth, thinking I was about to feed her. She probably thought I was a (huge) pigeon too! I just wonder... why should the cycle of life be so cruel? She was with me for 5 years, and I was pretty sure she would be with me for a long, long time. I still cant believe she is gone. When I walked in home after college today, I just saw her on the floor, head hunched on one side, with both eyes open. I picked her up and put her on my bed. Both her eyes were open - its like she could see me, but only she couldn't. I tried saving her, I really tried. I was attending to her and my 2 other pigeons all day yesterday (It was a holiday in my area). Hand feeding them, giving them the medication that you guys were kind enough to suggest, making sure they get all the kindness and affection they needed. But yet... I dont know what happened. I somehow keep telling myself its not my fault, I did everything I could, but somehow I end up feeling guilty anyway. I can't help it. I was looking at photos of my pigeons in happier times, and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Why couldn't it last! Why! I have two pigeons remaining with me now. One of them is in such a bad condition that it cannot stand straight anymore. Im afraid it might die any day. But Im not gonna make another post for that as well, as it pains me enough to write about just Isabelle. So, heres to Isabelle, a fine pigeon, a pigeon that put a smile in my face for 5 years, a pigeon, who will always remain in my heart, even though her spirit has passed away. I miss her so much.... ![]() |

I'm very sorry that Isabelle passed away. Five years is a long time to have a pigeon and she sounds like a real sweetheart. I do hope the other pigeon can pull through. We lost our 3 favorite pigeons in the past year and it can be pretty devastating.
We have a forum called Hall of Love that members can use to post when they lose a beloved pet. Maybe one of the moderators can move this thread there. Again, I am so sorry.

fortfun2,
I am so sorry you lost Isabelle. You gave her many wonderful years as did she to you. You carry her in your heart now instead of your hands. I hope your others will recover. Margaret |

I am teary reading this thread about your loss of Isabelle and the comments others have posted. Most of us are all too familiar with the empty feeling the passing of one so beloved, brings. Wouldn't wish it on anyone, ever.
Her body may be gone but I think her spirit is still with you. I hope you find some comfort in our support.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish we could have more time here w/our beloved feathered and furry babies.
Thank you for giving her more love in her 5 years w/you than others sadly ever experience at all. You both were lucky to have each other. I hope that your other pijies get better soon.
