AnastasiaCanary Jayne found Anastasia on Christmas Day. She came down to feed with one of the flocks, but she kept getting knocked over and when she managed to secure a seed didn't know what to do with it, so Jayne took her home for warmth, rehydration and handfeeding.
John picked her up and brought her to me on Boxing Day. She stood as still as a statue for hours on end, but gradually developed nervous symptoms, followed by bloody poops and then breathing difficulties. Anastasia was a fighter! The poops became normal after worming and probiotics but the respiratory problems were more persistent, The vet diagnosed Mycoplasmosis. She was treated initially with Baytril, then Tylan. Despite the loud and noisy breathing that manifested itself every evening Anastasia was energetic, biting and windslapping me when I cleaned her cage out or tried to feed her. After a while she started feeding herself, although her "seed tossing" meant it took all day to get a crop full. Her breathing became quiter but worse. I made an appointment to see the vet this evening but asked him to telephone me if he could, because I wanted to change her treatment to a combination of Doxy and Tylan. When the vet called he pointed out that I had been prescribed some Doxy for another pigeon. Delighted, I rushed downstairs and grabbed the medicine,,,it was too late, Annie slipped away quietly in my arms. I don't post all my losses here, they are in my heart and I usually have years of memories to fall back on, but Anastasia was Jayne's rescue and I feel that her tribute belongs here. Bye-Bye Annie, mummy will miss you.

I'm sorry Anastasia lost her battle Cynthia.
Although you don't post every loss here, I know that each and every little soul you tried to rescue and who past away was loved by you and that you will always miss them. Myriam |

Sorry to hear about Anastasia. Such a pretty name. My daughter had a premature baby a few years ago and named her Anastasia. She didn't live but a few hours. I've always loved that name.

Bless her heart. I'm sorry you lost her, Cynthia. She sounds like she was a real fighter. What a blessing for her to have been given to you and been in your care for the last months of her life. Anastasia is one of my favorite names, too.

Thank you Cynthia. Anastasia was a dear little piggie and I am relieved she died in peaceful surroundings and with a friend beside her.
I know how much time you have given piggie over the past two months. I am sure your dedication and devotion made a difference to the quality of her short life. Your loving kindness is much appreciated. I know you did good, never giving up hope. But today was the day to say goodbye. It's just not possible to save them all but you tried your very best. Piggie would have known this. I know this has been a very sad day for you and I wish you better days. Jayne |

Cynthia, my sincere sympathies to both you and Canary Jane. Annie was a darling little bird and I know you're going to miss her very much. She was able to have a couple of months of love and good care that she wouldn't have had if the two of you had not intervened.
God bless you Anastasia.
