De Senna (NL 1991 2020650) - 1991 - July 30, 2007

De Senna and his mate, Serena, came to me in January of 2006 to live out the remainder of their lives as pampered and spoiled retired racing pigeons. I am very sorry to report that De Senna's time here was far too short. He passed away sometime during the night of July 30, 2007 at the ripe old age of 16. His mate, Serena, is also 16 years old and is mourning the loss of her beloved De Senna as I sit here and write this.

De Senna was a world class racing pigeon and sired a number of other world class racing pigeons in his time: http://www.hapycolofts.com/lofts/families/desenna.html

De Senna and Serena were introduced to Pigeon-Talk in this thread: http://www.pigeons.biz/forums/showthread.php?t=13622

Though De Senna had developed very serious arthritis in his feet and legs, he appeared to be otherwise healthy and happy. I was even thinking how well he and Serena were doing when I topped up their food and water late yesterday afternoon. Little did I know that De Senna would not be with us in the morning.

I will miss this grand old man.

Terry

Thank you Pidgey and Shi. De Senna was, indeed, a very handsome boy.

Hi Terry,
My condolences on the loss of De Senna. I hope his mate will be okay.
Thank you for providing a safe & loving home for them in their "golden" years. ALL retired racers should be so blessed.

Thanks, Phyll. I just went to check on Serena. She's gone to bed for the night .. here's a pic of her: http://www.rims.net/2007May13/target10.html

Guess I'll give her a few days and then see if she is interested in any of the other older gentlemen around here .. it will be her choice.

Serena & De Senna look so beautiful, Terry.

I'm glad Serena will have the opportunity to choose a mate ~ or not. I feel so sad for her.
Hopefully, she will find love again. Please let us know.

Yeah .. and he was a little peeper in the Netherlands .. he came here to the US as a BIG TIME racing pigeon. I am so very honored to have had him and Serena with me for their retirement. I'm really hoping that Serena will like another of the elder "statesmen" here .. it's totally her choice ..

De Senna

Rest in Peace you beautiful noble champion! Sending my best thoughts and condolensces to Serena and to you Terry.

I am touched and sitting here with a tear running down my cheek. I have always had a special appreciation for our old timers, and have a few heading that way also.

I hope Serena does okay thru this period of time and moves on with her live. Give her a hug for me.

De Senna took to the sky for the last time on his wings of speed and grace.
What a wonderful retirement he had with his Serena. Beautiful birds and a gracious story.
RIP brave racer and I hope Serena will be okay and find a new gentleman to keep her warm and content.

Feather hugs.

Well, Treesa, here I am, sitting here crying too. Sometimes certain bird's deaths hit me in the gut and this one did. De Senna was so handsome and had a wonderful history.

Terry, I'm truly sorry this grand old guy is no longer with you.

Terry,

My condolences to both you and Serena. He was a beautiful bird, and you and he were both fortunate to be able to share his retired years. Serena is lovely. I'm sure she will opt to favor one of the older gentleman birds in due time. RIP De Senna and take wing as you did when you were a youngster.
