Fantail Fancy Loses A Loved One
Posted on our Fantail discussion group this morning. Virtually all my fantails have Alberta Clipper in their ancestry....
The fantail fancy lost a great one. No, not one of our brother fanciers but a pigeon. Just a pigeon. The Solley Cock is credited with shaping the fantail of the early part of the 20th century. I think it is undeniable that the Alberta Clipper has shaped the fantail we are currently breeding. Her show record was impressive, champion at the CCFC and CFC as young girl in 1995, but her legacy is the strain she produced. In the breeding pen she gave quality with any cock she was mated to, and when her sons were taken back to her she set her strengths. she had a wide deep body, smooth wingline and good legs and was a good walker. She is in the background of every bird I have and is also in the background of a half dozen or more top 3's at the Central. Her offspring have won scores of championships for others in many countries. Truly I was blessed to have such a fantail. She bred well until she was 12 years old. The past couple of years she has been skin and bones but hung in there. Upon my return from my last business trip she died. She will get her own little plot up on the hill, she earned it.......... ......... ......... .......
