Farewell and Fly Free Ptero I was very saddened on December 23, 2010 to find Ptero (short for Pterodactyl) dead in the aviary he shared with his mate Jewel and a dozen or so others of my most beloved and most long term pigeons. Ptero was the first baby pigeon I ever raised, and I loved him dearly. He came to me in mid-April 2001 so was a bit more than 9 1/2 years old when he passed. He was a solid black pigeon .. my favorite pigeon color. Ptero fell for Jewel, an older woman and a racing pigeon. Jewel taught Ptero everything he needed to know, and he was her devoted and loving mate from a very tender age until the end of his life. Farewell and fly free, Ptero. I am missing you, but I know that our Guardian Angels have you safely within their wings. Terry

Rest in Peace Ptero
 He'll have plenty of our feathered friends to fly with now, and of course Shi and the crew to make sure they stay out of trouble!

He had the look of a fine feller at that young age. Has the look of "nobility".

I bet he was so pretty.. black pigeons are esp beautiful.. so sorry for your loss Terry..

Thank you all for your posts. I am still a bit "weepy" from the loss of this bird. He was a very special one to me. I know our Guardian Angels are enjoying his company and looking after him.

I am so sorry for your loss and so close to Christmas too. I bet Shi is loving him and watching over him for you. He must have been one very happy pigeon to have had your love and care for so long.

He had such a sweet expression in that photo, I can see why he would have stolen your heart from the start. May he fly free and watch over his mate Jewel from above now. Janet x

My condolences on the loss of your dear Ptero. You gave him a full, wonderful life. As a first baby, he holds a very special place in your heart!
