Farewell Beloved BraveheartI just heard from Braveheart's foster Mom that things have not been going well for little Braveheart. Our precious little duck has stopped eating on her own and has had to be tube fed which she hates. She has also started to suffer from violent seizures. There has been no improvement in Braveheart's overall condition. She cannot stand or walk on her own and is still developmentally challenged. With the added factors of the seizures and her not being willing to eat, Kristi and I have made the heartbreaking decision to give little Braveheart her angel wings today.
I cannot begin to tell you how sad this makes me. I am so sorry for Braveheart, and my heart breaks for Kristi who was trying so hard to be strong but succumbed to tears anyway. Fly free little Braveheart! A whole lot of people love you! Terry ![]() |

I had so hoped Braveheart would make it but considering his condition I believe you made the only choice you could. God bless you and Kristi for giving him care and love.
This little guy touched many hearts. I hope Cathy's Romeo met him at the bridge.

Oh Terry, I'm tearing up as I write this. That poor little duck went through so much. I can understand why the decision had to be made. Obviously there was neurological damage there with the seizures and that blessed little guy didn't need more pain in his life. I am so glad he had love and cuddles and warmth for the last part of his life. RIP little Braveheart.

I am so sad that the poor little duckling who stole all of our hearts lost his fight. The only consolation is he lived a few happy weeks, and that he could experience what it means to be loved and cared for.

As everyone else, my heart is broken. Terry and Kristi, I am glad that she was in your care the last part of her life. Your decision to part with her was so unselfish, and as Maggie said the only choice you could have made.
Thank you for sharing her existence with us on this forum. I only hope that I can be as brave as that little duck if I am ever faced with out numbered odds. Farewell sweet girl. Last edited by Feather; 18th May 2008 at 02:10 PM. |

Oh Terry.....I know you've tried to prepare us all for this day, but I was so hoping it wasn't going to come for quite a good while.
This is so sad....poor Braveheart....I'm so glad to know he was lavished with the love and care he deserved at least toward the end of his life. I hope there is a heaven and that he's in it....healthy, happy and whole. Linda |

I'm so sorry that Braveheart wasn't able to make it. Thank God he had you guys to take such wonderful, loving care of him. He was very blessed and blessed many in turn during his short time here with us. Now he is pain-free.

Thank you, everyone! I am just devastated by this .. it's finally caught up with me .. no more big, strong, Terry .. I was sobbing my eyes out in the kitchen just now over Braveheart. I am truly, truly heartbroken even though I knew this was coming.
Further, I was STUPID and did not realize when Kristi asked me today if I needed help with anything. She was clearly asking if there was another needy baby here, and I was so strung out about Braveheart that I did not respond correctly. I have no other needy ducks here (not true .. but they are seriously old and not ones that Kristi could realistically do anything with to help), but I do have tiny baby birds that Kristi would do a fine job of raising and with a very good chance of success (unless, of course, they got to be PETS in her care ). I'll call her tomorrow and see if I can help fill the void that Braveheart has left with some of my itty bitty babies.I'm just a mess over Braveheart .. sorry .. Terry |

Brave heart will be so happy on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge (except for missing the wonderful people in her life) Bet Brave heart gets the job of "meet and greet" duckie over there.

I'm so sorry about this sweet little soul. He tried, and so did you, and Kristi. You've done the best for him that could be done.
