Farewell Beloved Butch AKA The Mega Pug - Feb 08, 1998 - Oct 31, 2008

There has been so much sadness here of late that I just did not have the heart to post about the death of my beloved Butch, The Mega Pug. Now is the time, and here is the story of Butch.

I fed Butch at about 8:30 AM on Friday, October 31, 2008 and left to run some errands. When I returned home at noon on that day, I called for Butch, Maggie, and Sundance to come for treats. Maggie and Sundance came running, but Butch did not.

A quick check to the side of the house found Butch quite dead. I was shocked and heartbroken and beside myself as to what to do. Butch truly was a Mega Pug weighing in at about 46 pounds. There was no easy and respectful way to pick him up and Sundance kept whining and pushing my hands and arms away from Butch. I finally had to go get a huge and thick towel to throw over Butch and picked him up in a sling type of thing. Once I had him, we headed to Dr. Lee for a cause of death .. heart attack .. and then on to the Seabreeze Pet Crematory. Truly, my heart was breaking and it was all I could do to get Butch to his final "place". Butch's cremains came back this week, and he is now with all the many others that we have loved and lost.

Butch was an AKC registered Pug .. too bad he was so big .. his siblings are also.

I lost a beloved Yorkshire Terrier at the age of 18 in early 1998. In February of 1998, Dr. Lee called me and asked if I could come to his office. Why? I asked .. Just come, he said.

I arrived and was put in an exam room .. shortly after, in walked Dr. Lee with 3 three day old Pug puppies. I KNEW I was being set up at that moment and asked "what are you doing?" Dr. Lee replied that one of the puppies had to find a home and that he wanted me to have that puppy. I replied that I was NOT ready for another dog. Dr. Lee replied .. "Think about it .. you have about 6 weeks". I left and thought that there was NO way I was taking one of those puppies and pretty much forgot about it.

Five weeks later comes a call from Dr. Lee's office .. you HAVE to come get your puppy .. they are too big too soon and are ready for a home. I replied that I really wasn't ready for another dog. Dr. Lee gets on the phone and convinces me to come in and have a look .. the rest is history .. I left with Butch whom I thought was the runt of the litter .. HAH!

Dr. Lee took three Pug puppies as payment for a difficult C-section on a Pug Momma who was carrying six over sized puppies. He has Butch's two siblings, and the owner of the Momma has the two surviving puppies .. sadly, one puppy was lost. Me, I got my Butchie Boy .. what a gentle, loving dog.

Butchie would sit for hours next to sick and injured ducks and geese .. he just wanted to comfort them and be their friend.

I will never forget my big, gentle, round dog with the huge expressive brown eyes. You are one of a kind Butch! Rest in peace!

Terry

Oh, no, Terry, it breaks my heart to read this one! I'm so very sorry for you!

Rest in Peace, Butchie--I know I kidded your mom about you but it was all in good fun.

Thank you, Pidgey. Butchie and I both know that you were just kidding back then and that you are most sincere now. Thank you!

Oh, Terry, I am so sorry that you have lost your beloved Butchie! I'm sure you miss him terribly. My condolences during this very difficult time.

I know Butchie held a very special place in your heart. You gave him a wonderful life, including a job helping you with your rescues. A dog couldn't ask for more. He shared with you the gift of his life and his love.

Thank you, Terri! Yes, Butch was a very special dog, and I miss him terribly. So do Sundance and Maggie. Sundance raised him from a wee one. When I can find the pictures, I will post them .. Butch as a little, bitty thing like a kitten sleeping on Sundance who back then was only a little bitty Toy Poodle.

I'm so very sorry to hear that Butch has gone on to the Rainbow Bridge, Terry. It's so hard to lose such a special member of the family, it's just heartbreaking indeed. You and Sundance and Maggie are in my thoughts and prayers. Bless Dr. Lee for bringing the two of you together for the many years you had, but I know it is never enough time! Sending you a big hug and much comforting.

I am so sorry, Terry! Animals are individuals and when you lose one you can never get them back--or one like them. I know how hard it is to lose a pet and I'm so sorry for you! Comforting hugs...

Oh Terry............I am so very sorry for the loss of your Butch. I know how heartbreaking it is to loose a beloved pet. I lost my precious Teddy, a little toy poodle at 21 years old.....it was like loosing a child.........I cried for weeks. Animals bring such joy into our lives and when one dies it's like you loose a part of yourself as well. Someone once told me that when we pass......all of our pets are waiting for us on the rainbow bridge to greet us. That thought has always conforted me.

Rest in Peace precious Butch.......

Comforting hugs to you Terry.

Terry, I am so sorry. Our dogs are like children, they are always there for us and even though we know that we are most likely to survive them the grief of parting is overwhelming.

You have had so much sorrow to deal with over the past few months...take care of yourself.
