Farewell Old Curly ..I found Curly dead when I returned home from work today. What a sad thing to happen on my birthday. Curly was an older Frillback (1999 NPA banded) that I have had for a couple of years.
Curly and his mate were gifted to me by an NPA member, and I was thrilled to have them. Curly's mate passed on about a year ago, and I got another Frillback (Cameo) from our member, Rena, in the hopes that Curly and Cameo would hook up. Sadly, that didn't happen. I think the extreme heat here in the past couple of weeks and especially in the past couple of days is taking a real toll on older birds even with plenty of shade, ventilation, fresh water and food available. Curly, you never were or would have been a great flying bird in your old existence, but I now know that you are flying free. Rest in peace elder gentlebird. Terry ![]() |

I can hardly hold back the tears
Without even meeting Curly he has touched my heart, I have a special place in my heart that only the elder animals may enter. He was such a beautiful pigeon and I can envision him flying over the rainbow bridge meeting his loving wife on the other side. ![]() Thank you for sharing Terry. ![]()

Gosh so sad, losing good old Curly on your birthday of all days.
Somewhere there's a lovely loft with all the fresh air, food and water they want, that never needs cleaning, and the skies are always safe. That's where Curly's found a new favorite place to settle down in with a whole lot of new friends. That's how I like to think of it.

Terry,
I guess from the start that it wasn't going to be the kind of Birthday that the members on this forum wished for you. Curly was one gorgeous pigeon. He already looked like an angel. Now he will be united with his life long mate, hovering the bridge until they see you coming. |

Me too. There sure has been an abundance of good-byes lately. It's so very hard.

Condolences on the loss of your Curly, Terry.
I guess birthdays are also reminders that we all have to go someday, so celebrate what we have while we can. Happy birthday, or as happy as you can make it. Thanks for sharing with us. Larry
