Thank you Shi, lwerden, and Margaret for your thoughtful and heartfelt comments and condolences. They mean a lot to me.

Like Skye and Sonic, Whiskey was the only other bird that occupied so much of my time. Yes, she does hold a special place in my heart.

I have just seen the pictures of Whiskey, she was such a beautiful bird.

I too am so sorry for your loss, what a terrible shock for you.
How lovely she had such a fulfilling life with you and Pluto while she was here.

Hold onto the comforting thought that she can fly free once again.

Thank you for your words of comfort, it helps, especially when I find it increasingly difficult to go out into the coop and pass her empty and now vacant cubby.

Treesa, I'm sorry you're having to deal with this empty feeling. I think the extra time spent nursing a bird creates a close bond which makes the loss even more difficult. You take such excellent care of your birds, providing them with every comfort. She was a special bird - I love that fighting hen spirit!

I just found this thread, Treesa. I'm so sorry you lost Whiskey. What a beautiful and unusual girl she was. At least she had a happy last day. To me that seems better than when they linger with a long illness.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Such a beautiful bird. You said she was lying by the grit bowl. This may sound silly, but could it be possible that she choked on a large piece of grit? Sometimes there are some large pieces, I usually take them out..... just in case. Just a thought. So hard when they go so quickly like that. Sorry.

Treesa,

Sorry I'm coming to this thread late.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy to lose them. In this case, it's even harder on you when it's so totally unexpected. But, hopefully, easier on Whiskey. As Birdmom said, it sounds like she had a very happy last day with you.

Linda

Oh Treesa, I don't know how I missed this thread before!
I'm so sorry you lost your darling girl, and I understand how difficult it must be to carry on as usual with this terrible empty feeling... I wish I could say that time heals everything, but I'm not so sure. All I know is that it was a joy and a priviledge to share special moments with her, so please let your heart be flooded with the love you had for her and let her pretty face fill the void.
Don't worry... she's standing on Maggie's shoulder, preening...

A big hug,
Teresa.

Thank you all (Cathy, Lin, Jay3, and Teresa) for your kind and thoughtful words. It sure does help. Whiskey did have a wonderful life, and that is a comfort. I still catch myself going to tend to her and calling her name, only to remember she is no longer in this world.

Yes, I know. I do that when one of my animals passes. Just so hard to get used to them not being with us. I think they're always with us though. We just don't see them. But we feel them, and that's what matters I think.

This will be quite a shock for you then, as it was for all of us. She passed away.

Read the thread that Feather posted:

Oh God! It's been such a rough month. I'm stunned that's she's gone. Will the tears never end?

Thou'rt gone,
The abyss of Heaven
hath swallowed up thy form;
Yet on my heart
Deeply hath sunk
the love thou has given,
And shall not soon Depart!
