Good-bye to a very sweet girl....

She wasn't a pigeon but she was sure an important family member. My old pet rat "Mommy Meece" passed away last night. I got her as a baby from a "snake food" tank at the pet shop, and she was pregnant then, almost four years ago. She was a Siamese rat, with chocolate ears, nose, and tail, just like a Siamese cat. She was the best mom to her babies and got along with every furry animal in the house. She hung out with the dog and cats and even the unreleasable pet opossum that lived with us. She always took care of other rescued babies, trying to nurse them even though she had no milk. She especially loved Notch, a feral cat we fostered one summer. This is a picture of them together:



She is survived by her dear husband Mortimer, whom she has lived with for the past year, and who misses her as much as I do. My heart is happy knowing she is in the best place now, young and healthy and happy again. <3

It really doesn't matter that Mommy M was a rat or not, she was your beloved pet and pets provide us with so much joy and happiness. I'm so sorry for you loss! I remember you mentioned that her time might be near. Mommy Meece was quite special in her zeal to be "foster" mom! I know you will miss her physical presence, but her spirit will always be alive with you. She was quite a special one!

I have always liked rats and remember when I worked for a Vet, a client brought in their rat to be euthanized because it had a tumor on its side. This rat was so sweet, that my boss removed the tumor and the pet store down the street found a loving home for him.

I lost a hamster while ago , he last about 4 years , sweet little thing!!
Your pet was very lucky to have share wounderful moments with you, this memories will stay forever in your heart.
It is hard to say goodbye a pet you hold so dear, I pray you will fine comfort in memories you make together, and after is time for us to go , we'll see them again.

I read yesterday that she was failing and was sorry to read this morning that she had passed away. I have always liked mice and rats although I never had one as a pet. I know you'll miss her.

I know you will miss your beautiful pet, with the understanding that she is residing inside your heart.

When I was very young, my little girl friends' mother gave me her daughters pet rat. She use to take her by the tail and swing it around her head.

This behavior would cause me to scream and cry. One day her mother came into the room and told her that if she did not stop being mean to the rat, that she was going to give the little rodent to me.

Well, one day I remember walking home with Regina tucked in my sweater. No cage or anything just a rat. I was so happy that she would be safe. Bless my mother. Regina found her place with our cats and dog, so I can relate to the bond there. As one of my smartest and most beloved pets, Regina is still very much alive in my heart.

When you get to your next destination please tell my Regina that after all these years, I still remember her, and that my love and appreciation for her has grown even stronger. Tell her that I have changed. Now when I see a pet mistreated, I don't just stand there and scream. Now, the animal comes home with me right away.

I'm sorry to hear about Mommy Meece. She sounds like such a sweet little creature. Thank God you rescued her from the pet store. The other day, when you mentioned having been up with her all night, I knew how much you loved her. Take care.
