Goodbye Old Girl .. Rest In Peace, SchatzieThough Schatzie was not a pigeon, I had shared her with the members here and wanted to let you all know that the time had come today to end Schatzie's suffering. She was estimated to be 18 years old by my vet and was blind, deaf, senile (as in mild dementia) and had lost all control over her hindquarters. Schatzie and I made our last road trip together this morning .. first to Dr. Lee's and then to the Sea Breeze Pet Cemetery & Crematory. I will be picking up Schatzie's remains on Saturday and bringing her home for the final time.
![]() Terry "OLD DOG IN A LOCKET" Old dog in a locket, That lays next to my heart; I will always love you, As I did right from the start. You were right beside me, Through the darkest of my days; It was your kind and gentle nature, That made me want to stay. Now I hold you in my arms, Your breath still warm against my hand; Our hearts still beat together, And I wonder if you understand. Through the hours that I held you, Before the light did leave your soul; I knew a way to keep you, Forever in my hold. I snipped the hair from around your eyes, So I would always see; The beauty that surrounds me, Even in times of need. I snipped the hair from around your ears, So I would always hear; Music in the distance, To quiet any fears. I snipped the hair from across your back, To bring me strength in time of need; And the power of your essence, Would always be with me. I snipped the hair from around your heart, That beat in time with mine; So I would know that love would find me, At some distant time. And so, your life slipped out of mine, On a quiet Spring-like day; But I knew that a part of you, Was always here to stay. Old dog in a locket, That lays next to my heart; I will always love you, Even though we had to part. AUTHOR--Heidi Stamm (Bainbridge Island, WA |

Schatzie was a very special girl and I know you will miss her. RIP, Schatzie. Thank you for sharing that poem as well. Sniff, not a dry eye here.

I'm so sorry Terry. She was so cute and I'm sure a real sweetie. I'm glad she had you for a mommy...for however long that was I know she was treated the best, the way she should be. It's so hard to lose them, our babies. Kisses and hugs to you and Schatzie.

Terry, I am so sorry to read that Schatzie has passed on. I know what a difficult decision that can be. She was such as sweet gentle lady and you gave her a wonderful life in her old age. I think the senior animals are especially appreciative of the kindnesses shown. This is one young pup that will for sure be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge!

Terry,
I am so sorry to hear that the time had come for you to say goodbye to Schatzie. Thank you for the picture of her. No dry eyes here either. May she be walking the Rainbow bridge as a healthy young dog with a smile on her face. She was loved. Margaret |

All of us who have had to make the decision to end the lives of our senior beloved companions, know what you are going through, Terry
I remember your posting about Schatzie and knew, from what you said, that her time to leave would be drawing near... The poem you posted was one of the most heartfelt ones I have ever read and I thank you for sharing... Run free, Schatzie...you were loved while in this world and always will be...in memories... Sending loving hugs and sympathy, Terry... Shi |
