"Homie" - the start of it all...

Many years ago I found an injured white pigeons near my local bookstore. I did not keep pigeons at the time and was not familiar with the pigeon hobby. I realized this bird was not feral and, with some trouble, managed to catch her and bring her home. I had owned a ring-neck dove as a child but that was everything for my bird experience! I took the little white bird to an avian vet who splinted her leg, gave me a quick summary of bird keeping, and sent me on my way. Thanks to the power of the internet I was able to increase my knowledge of pigeon-keeping and, in doing so, discovered that my little white bird was actually a Thailand Laugher. This led to acquiring more Laughers (quite the search!) among others. My single bird cage grew into a 10x10 loft and my chicken coop became a small 6x4 pigeon "loft". Unfortunately, my beloved Homie was tragically killed a few years after my discovering her . I do have 2 of her daughters in my loft so her legacy continues...

PS: She acquired the name Homie as, due to my pigeon ignorance, I originally thought her to be a white racing homer cockbird .

Thank you for sharing the story of how you started your pigeon hobby. I am sorry to hear though Homie is not with you anymore.

I'm sorry to hear about poor Homie Aren't you glad you took in the little Laugher now? It's weird how one little bird can change your life

Thank you for sharing by the way. I like hearing about how others got into the hobby.

How nice that you have two of her daughters. We would love to see any pictures of your pigeons, too.

Here are the images a bit larger ...

My friend, Mare Robinson, painted the watercolor of Homie as a Christmas present.
