In Loving Memory of EggbertEggbert was a much-loved member of my family for almost 13 years. He was given to me at two weeks of age and I raised him from a squab. On the night of October 5, 2005, he died unexpectedly - but peacefully - as I was holding him gently in my hands when he passed away. I was absolutely devestated over losing him. I was so broken-hearted over his death that I couldn't seem to stop crying. It was so hard to accept but I knew that someday we would meet again and until then his little soul watches over me while he flies free from predators, free from sickness, injuries and pain. He was my "baby" and he always will be. Occasionally I'll find one of his feathers somewhere and wonder if it's a sign from him. Maybe, maybe not. We buried him on my mother's property next to one corner of her house, and buried with him was the little stuffed penguin that he loved so much. His little grave is marked with a cross and flowers and on the day we buried him, my husband, my mother and myself all stood there and bawled like babies. We all loved him and he had loved us unconditionally. Eggbert was One in a Million. I even have a trophy with a pigeon figurine and on the faceplate I had engraved: EGGBERT - THE WORLD'S MOST INFAMOUS PIGEON. Rest in peace, baby bird.

Danielle,
Take comfort in knowing that he lived a long life and that he was loved. So many of our feathered friends live such short horrible lives. Even his name always reminded me of a very loved and spoiled little bird. I find that they never really leave us...they are forever embedded in our hearts. The memories will sometimes fade, but just go back to their space in your heart. You will find them there just as warm, funny, and loving as they were when you were together. He had a good life! Eggbert enjoyed a truly wonderful life with you & Jim. I know how very much you loved him & that you always will. Eggbert's long life gives hope to many of us for our own pet pigeons. He will be happily awaiting your arrival in Heaven. Phyll |
