Kippys' StoryKim asked if I would post Kippy's story for her.
Cindy In July 2003, during a storm, Kippy fell out of a palm tree & into my life. I was out in the yard, spotted her and bought her in. She was just a baby and I didn't think she would survive but I put her on heat anyway. I didn't know what else to do so I left her alone to rest. I was amazed when I checked on her and she was still alive and looking pretty good. This all happened before I joined Pigeons.com so I was winging it. I really didn't know what to do but I had a lot of palm trees and sparrows falling from them so I had baby food on hand just in case. Kippy wanted to live and she knew what to do. I would make the food and she would eat it. I built her a little cage to keep her in and I would take her out when I was outside. She would follow me around as I was watering the plants and cleaning up the yard. I would sit out on the back patio at night and watch TV and she would just hang out and play with my feet and fingers and be nosey. She was raised on American Idol. Not really sure if she liked it or not but we watched it together. I'm used to dogs so I would play tug-o-war with her with hair ties and little beanie animals. She loved playing games. Kippy was really growing so I built her a bigger cage. I would still take her out while I was working in the yard. One time she took off and was gone for 3 days. I was sick with worry, wondering if anything had happened to her. I would leave her cage door open while I was at work, just in case she decided to come back. On the third day, I came home and there she was, in her basket, resting. She was wiped out. She had never had to look for food or shelter. I didn't want that to happen again so I built ‘Kippy's Condo’ to give her more room. She loved it. She had her toys and I would grow Garlic bulbs and put them in there and she would rip through them. She loved them. She would play in the spray from the hose when I was cleaning the patio, inside ‘her’ condo. It would drive me nuts but I'm going to miss that. Her little feet running towards the spray, it was funny. Eventually Kippy had her first pigeon friend, Splash, move in. She loved Splash and Splash loved her. I had been replaced, but they would have fun. I have since added a few more pigeons to ‘Kippy's Condo’. The more the merrier for Kip. She was always easy to get along with. She was never aggressive with the others when they were introduced. Kippy was grown now and had her flock and became more of a pigeon. She is the only pigeon I had that would land on my back when I was in cleaning the condo and the only one who liked to play with the hose. She was always the first one in the pigeon bath and the only one who would get the late night munchies. There is emptiness in the cage now. This all started with Kippy. I asked the Lord why? Before Kippy, I enjoyed going to ‘happy hour’. I enjoyed staying out late. I remember going to happy hour after work one day and left early because I had to go home and feed the birds. Kippy took me down a different path with the Lords help. All my attention went towards her and her feathered friends. I helped her when she was in trouble and in return maybe she helped me stay out of trouble. The Lord took her. Why? She belongs to the Lord not me. Kippy is gentle and full of love, and she deserves to move on and fly. She has the freedom to fly wherever she wants to now. Kim "My sweet Kippy, you will be missed, but never forgotten"

Cindy,
That is the most beautiful tribute to precious Kippy. Kim, what a lucky day it was when Kippy's pigeon mother put her eggs in the palm tree that would lead her ultimately into your care. Your story of her is so heartwarming. I hope that it will be a confort for you to remember that she was a pampered little pigeon, and that even in death she was not alone. Pij was waiting for her to take her to join the rest of our beloved friends that have left this realm before her. Cindy thank you so much for the breath taking visual, I often wondered just what they were up to. |

How lucky you and Kippy were to find each other and have these special years together. I hope you are able to find some peace and comfort during this sad time.

Kim, I know exactly what you're feeling because we lost our favorite pigeon Frosty just recently. It is so hard when you love them so much and know you'll never physically see them again. However, our Frosty is still around in so many things I see or things I do so that makes it easier. Even though the parting is hard on us I would rather have had her than never had her at all and I know you feel the same about Kippy. I read Kippy's story and Cindy's tribute to her and was very touched. I would like to think all of our beloved pigeons who have crossed over were there to great Kippy en masse.

I love the pictures you posted. I have the one of Kippy enjoying the water from the hose, but not the one in the bath. Priceless!! Pictures are wonderful memories. Cindy
