My sweet Dory is gone

This morning around 7:00 AM, Dory passed away.
She had been sick for a few days and I thought that I could make her well again, but it wasn't meant to be.
Dory was just a sweet little bird. She was hatched on February 10, 2006. She was a runt and way behind her nest mate. I had fed her a few days to help keep her going. However, I never had to take her from her parents and eventually she grew up to be a "big bird."
I knew that racing was not in her future so decided to try to find someone who would give her a home and love her. One night, while on this forum, someone posted that they were looking for a pet pigeon. Low and behold, she lived about 5 miles from me. We arranged for her to come over and visit with Dory and I made a trip to her house to see where Dory would live. Everything seemed to be perfect, so when Dory was old enough, she went to live with Rebekka. Dory spent much of her time in the house but also had a small, but cute little "loft" so that she could go outside some. Rebekka called me one day simply frantic. She had let Dory get loose accidently. Dory was sitting on the fence watching Rebekka, but wouldn't come to her. I was down in NC when she called, so there was nothing I could do. I just told Rebekka to stay calm, not let Dory out of her sight, don't startle her and keep talking to her. Eventually, Dory came to Rebekka and she was able to get her back inside.
Then, one afternoon, Rebekka called me and said she had to go to Tennessee as her grandmother was dying and could I keep Dory. Well, of course I could, so she brought Dory over. Here are some pictures of when she was staying with me.

I fell in love with her all over again. Eventually, Rebekka had some family problems and had to move to Tennessee and couldn't take Dory with her, so I told her she could just come here and live. I wasn't sure how she would take to loft life, but she did very well.
Eventually, Scooter was born and in time, when he got old enough and I realized that he was a "he"......I put him and Dory together and it was instant love.

Dory part II

So, now my little girl has gone and left Scooter and Poppy behind. I will miss her so much and Scooter will too and I'm sure he doesn't understand where his lovely girl has gone, but in time, I'll introduce him to a new mate and he'll be just fine.
RIP Dory. We love you and will miss you.

Thank you Treesa.......I keep walking outside and seeing poor Scooter all alone. He almost begs for me to come talk to him. I hate that he can't understand like we can.

Oh, Renee,
I am so sorry. Everyone in here has followed Dory's story and we have all come to love her, just as you did. How shocking and sad, especially knowing how well you take care of your birds, and knowing how hard you must have fought to help her recover her health. Please put a pretty little plant or stone on her grave for all of us in here.
Hugs with tears,
Daryl

Renee,

The story of Dory's life is lovely. She started as a tiny miracle, and you kept a special place in your heart for her even when she was living with Rebekka.
How lovely she came back to you and had such a happy life with Scooter.

I'm sorry you've lost her now,

Janet x
