It is always hard to know if you are doing the absolute right thing when you don't even know what is really wrong... Cirrus knew you cared and endured the exams and treatments knowing you were only trying to help him... His final moments were spent with close contact and soft voices... he was loved and left this life in peace. You did right by him. That's all you could do. Sorry for your sadness. Hope Alex can adjust to the loss. Maybe he can continue visiting with the other two parakeets and teaching one of them to "step up" Good luck...

Sorry to hear of your loss... it is always hard to know if you are doing the right thing when you don't even know what is really wrong. Cirrus endured the exams and treatment fully knowing he was cared for and loved. His last days were surrounded by people who used gentle voices and touch to soothe him. His final moments in this life were peaceful... You did right by him. I hope that Alex will adjust to his passing and not be discouraged to continue visiting the other parakeets and asking them to "step up"... wouldn't that be something if the others learned to do it??? Good luck and agan, sorry for your loss.

My condolences on the loss of your beautiful little budgie. Growning him from a baby, you must have become very attached to Cirrus so his death must be hard to absorb. Although birds seem such tough fighters, they are really so fragile. You gave him a wonderful life full of interesting experiences. Although the cause is still unknown, at least he was in the familiar comfort of home when he passed. I'm glad that Charlie has the other budgie to keep him company. I hope that Alex finds another bird to relate to. Deafness can be so isolating. Connecting to another, non-judgemental creature is valuable.

I am here on behalf of Cirrus as PIGEONFAIRY GODMOTHER to let you know that he is safe and happy with us and others who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Please do not be sad. While his physical body is gone, the spirit of Cirrus lives on. He and other PIGEONFAIRYS here will watch over you and your family. Cirrus is only a thought away. Cirrus wants you to know that your kindness and love will never be forgotten. We send you peace and love...always |

I called my vet today to tell him Cirrus didn't make it. He offered his condolences and mentioned what a sweet budgie Cirrus was. He also said that in his practice he's noticed that when people have an especially sweet parakeet, it dies young. Perhaps the sweetest ones are weak to begin with. It could be the old adage "only the good die young," is applicable to pet birds. If that's true, then my naughty little lovebird who chews everything up and pulls the cockatiel's tail when they are out of their cages for excercise should live to a ripe old age!

Cathy,
I'm sorry this is late, but I wanted to express my sorrow toward your loss. He sounds(And looked like), such a sweet bird. As you know, he is still with you, with a new body and a sense of peace at all times. You did everything you could and there isn't always a way to tell whether the medicine will help or not.. It sounds like he lived a life that most parakeets would long for(Pampered, well-fed and well-loved). Take care! |

Thank you, Brittany. We do miss him. His two parakeet buddies miss him, too. Ironically, one of our other budgies is older than Cirrus was. I took Blue in about 3 years ago when a friend couldn't keep him anymore and I estimate him to be 10 - 12 years old. Charlie, our other budgie, is the same age as Cirrus and we bought them at the same time. The others are in good health so whatever was wrong with Cirrus apparently wasn't contagious.
