Our little Nikki, forever in our hearts

Reti and I wanted our little Nikki to be in the hall of love because she was truly loved.
Nikki who was still a baby was found by a very caring lady who reported her to us on 911 Pigeon Alert and was one of my cases. I know many don't know this, but we make bird with injuries or illnesses our priority when they come in to us. Well! I seen this case so I jumped on it to help this little pigeon. I got in contact with Reti and her asked her if she could help me out with a pigeon and she said yes. Little did we know I much we would fall in love with her. Reti got in contact with me and asked me what I wanted to name her being when she got well she was coming to live with me to live her life out. I thought about it and the name Nikki kept coming to mind, so I emailed Reti and said I liked the name Nikki and from that point on she was know as Nikki. Reti kept me updated everyday on how she was doing and even sent me pictures, she seemed to be doing better, but we knew she had a long way go before she would be out of danger. Then on Sunday morning Reti emailed with the saddest news about Nikki, that she had passed away.
This what Reti wrote to me, Reti I hope you don't mind: It was all worth it
having her spend the last days of her little life in
peace, well fed, warm and loved. I am sure she knew
how precious she was and many people loved her so
much.
She was so much sicker than she showed to be, what a
trooper.
She was sitting peacefully in her little cage and was still warm. It took me a bit to realize she had passed, I knew in my heart she was gone but I was hoping, you know how it is when you're shocked. She was doing so much better yesterday, I had much hope for her. I think little Nikki knew she was loved by so many people.I was telling her that Mary Ann and Ellen ask about you, they want you to get better, and she was looking at me with her sweet eyes. She had suffered already so much in her little life that made even more lovable. It is amazing how you can bond with a little soul like this in just a few minutes.
The hall of love is the right place for Nikki. I am
glad she had a name when she passed.
I will take her to the pet cemetery and have her
burried.
When she was here with us she couldn't fly nor would her legs work. We know she is at peace now with wings that take her where ever she wants to go, and running and walking around with her legs that work. As for Reti and I the pain of losing is great and the tears just won't stop, but in our hearts she still lives, and her memories will never die.
You were so loved, so good bye for now our sweet beautiful Nikki until we meet again.

oh, that is so sweet! it makes me cry reading about Nikki, poor girl. she had amazing heart to go through everything she had to go through.. and now we can take strength to know that she is finally at peace.
fly strong and proud Nikki, we will always be touched by you, and know there are many that will always love and remember the pretty little girl with the huge heart.

Mary Ann and Reti, thank you both so very much for loving this little one and for your willingness to do anything you could to make her whole and healthy. She worked her way into our hearts in such a short time but I guess God wanted some important work done in heaven and chose Nikki to do it.

She was a beautiful little pigeon. Rest in peace little Nikki.

Xxmoxiexx, Thank you. Nikki did go through a lot, more than any birdie should of gone through, but at least she knew she was loved.

Maggie and Phyll, Thank you so much for your kind words. Nikki got the best chance possible, but her little body just couldn't fight anymore. They say that god loans them to us for only so long to teach us and that we teach then and then when it's time he calls them back home. I know I made the right decision and if I had or have to make the same one again I would do it in a heart beat without thinking twice about it. But like Reti said at least she had a name before she passed away.

That's why I like to name the pigeons - so that they have a name if they die and I'm there to give them a last resting place. If they have a name, it means they meant something to someone. That's the way I look at it.

I know Nikki is up there with my dad, Garye, Julius and all those others we care about who've gone on to the "other place". My dad must be kind of sick of having all these pigeons hanging around him all the time. He probably can't understand why they all want to be with him.

I hope he's enjoying feeding the pigeons.
