Cynthia,
I too very sorry to hear about Shy's passing You are such a kind and lovely lady to help these pigeons and you gave her a proper send off and place of eternal rest. I too like others, hope that Aaron gets over his loss and finds himself a new mate in the fullness of time. Tania x |

Cynthia & Pigifan,
I am sorry to hear that sweet Shy passed away. Cynthia, I know it was a terrible shock for you, but take comfort in knowing she passed quickly. Shy was lucky to have been in your care, as are all of your creatures. I hope Aaron will be okay. When you are up to it, please let us know how he is doing. Take care. Phyll |

Thanks everyone for the condolences. It was Pigifan that rescued Shy, she would not have lasted long without him and had obviously had two close encounters with death, first when she lost her foot and then when her wing was damaged.
I can't imagine how she would have survived as a feral without the food that Pigifan provided, she would have been too timid to compete for the limited food that would have otherswise been available. Cynthia

Hi Cynthia, I'm sorry about your 'little hen'. At least she had a comfortable and peaceful life for 16 months. I don't think she would have had that if she had been left out in the wild.
We all want a peaceful and painless end to our life and I believe Shy was in the best place for that. You did not fail as you did your very best. Jayne |

Thank you everybody for your kind words.
Cynthia provided Shy with excellent care and made her life comfortable and interesting despite her disability. Shy was a very timid and skittish (but very sweet) bird when I found her. She had difficulty adjusting to a flightless life in a new environment. However, after she adjusted she lived a happy life with Aaron. On her first day with me I had her in room with another feral with a similar injury (wing), Pale-eyes. They were both quite weak and thin as they probably hadn't eaten properly for a few days. After dinner, they moved fairly close to one another in order to roost for the night. As they were facing each other they started taking turns wing-slapping using their only good (non-injured) wing. It was funny because although they had the whole room to themselves, they chose to go out of their way to meet and start a fight. I really hope her life wasn't so short. I will remember her as one of the sweetest and most delicate pigeons I've come across. Thank you Cynthia for giving Shy the opportunity to live a happy life. |
