Pigifan - Shy died todayShy was one of Pigifan's rescues who joined the aviary in March last year. She had lost a foot and some toes and was also unable to fly.
As her name implies, she was a very sweet and very timid hen who at first used to squeeze into a small gap in the darkest corner of the aviary . We placed her in the doviary with Aaron, a handsome male who had come to us from Wildthings Rescue and once they had paired up we moved them into the aviary in a spacious breeding cage, The other pigeons quickly accepted that the breeding cage was their territory and didn't bother them. Shy seemed to feel secure there and would only leave ot for food and water. Yesterday Shy laid an egg, the first of a clutch and she seemed fine. This afternoon I checked the aviary, took the dogs for a last walk and when I returned an hour later I found Shy dead right next to the aviary door. I have no idea what caused her death. Aaron was still sitting on their egg, which had been replaced with a plastic one. He has yet to realise that she won't be back. Shy was buried behind a stone bench that faces the aviary. She was a gentle bird that will be sadly missed. Cynthia

I'm so sorry to hear Shy passed away. It must have been quite a shock to find her after she seemed fine earlier.
My heart goes out to you, and to Aaron, give him a hug and some comfort from me. I'm sure he will grieve for her for sometime and she will never be forgotten. You made a difference in her life, as did Aaron, you can take comfort in that. |

What a terrible shame.
I'm so sorry about Shy, it's so hard when it's unexpected and when she was doing so well. I hope losing her is not too hard on you and Aaron. ![]()

Cynthia,
I'm so sorry to hear about Shy's death. I know she was a dear dear hen from your description of her. I hope her mate won't grieve to long. It is so hard to not be able to tell them what happened. My condolences. Margarret |

Poor little Shy. Her story really touched me. She's soaring free now.
You gave her a wonderful life and the opportunity to be a happy little bird. I know you will miss her. Special thoughts to her mate Aaron. It will be confusing for him, hopefully there will be a new mate soon to help him. Feather hugs and tears Mary

Cynthia,
Sorry to hear about Shy's death. Must be rough for Aaron, too. Was he aware that she was dead; that is, was she in his view, not moving? Larry
