Remembering Two Special Woodies

I just wanted to keep a special memory of two pigeons that have touched my life.
Lambswood, beautifully named and cared for by Cynthia. She came into my life after being found injured by a friend. Not having the facilities to look after her long term, she was given a loving home with Cynthia, so I was still able to keep in touch with her progress. She unfortunately died suddenly last week without showing any obvious problems. She was my first encounter with a pigeon, and I will always remember her as she raised my awareness of these lovely birds.
BillyNo Mates, He arrived in my garden the day Lambswood died. For a Woodie he was remarkably unphased by my presence, and always came by himself, hence his nickname. He took possession of my bird bath and came and sit in it for ages. He would sit on my roof and when I put fresh water in the bath, he came down for a drink and a bath, followed by a bite to eat. I got to expect him daily. He came this morning and had his bath as usual. Mid morning I heard a loud bump, and I thought I'd got a burglar upstairs. Finding no-one, I went outside and found three magpies pulling at a pigeon on the lawn. I first thought they had killed him then I noticed the outline of a bird on my patio window. I can now see he had been the cause of the bump. Crashing into the window had obviously caused him a terrible head and chest injury, so he had died from that.
I feel sad because he had come to accept this garden as one of his safe places, and me as no threat. I looked forward to his visits.
I know they were both wild birds and were never mine, but they got into my heart, albeit for a short while, and I will miss them.

I am so sorry that you have had another loss, made worse by the magpies.

This is one of the most recent photos of Lambsie, showing off his new tail feathers.

Cynthia that's kind of you to find that picture. I've taken a copy of it.

She does look so proud of her new tail !

Bless her.

I'm so sorry for both of you, Janet and Cynthia.
Janet, I hope more Woodies will soon arrive in your garden to keep you company.

Squeaks and I add our condolences to the loss of Lambswood and Billy No Mate!

Sudden deaths are such a shock!

Some people will put decals on their windows so the birds don't run into them. But, sometimes, there is nothing you can do!

R.I.P. little ones!
