Ringo - 1/4/01 - 9/20/06Ringo came to us from a fellow rehabber to finish raising. From the gitgo he was friendly and cuddly. A lovely little checker with a lot of personality. As with Simon, it was too cold to put him in the aviary so he "wintered" with us. He was into everything and I finally trained him not to get out of his cage unless I lifted him out (really!). He would sit on my knee and bite and nibble my fingers. As he grew older he would pace up and down the counter and alternately fuss or run at us - all the time. He got very big, with a big breast which he loved to puff out.
After we moved him into the aviary he adjusted very well but, oddly, liked to stay on the ground most of the time rather than perch. He still did this until he died. We tried not to make him tame but we had to hold him a little longer than usual because his feathers kept breaking off, apparently from his early days of being malnourished. We finally decided to keep him because he was such a big baby. I never regretted it. He became less tame in the aviary as time went by because he always had the girls on his mind. He never settled with any one female but played the field - continually. When I would go to the aviary to sit with them he would always come to me and strut his stuff. Ringo was a great little guy. It just doesn't seem right that he's not in the aviary strutting and cooing and we miss him very much.

What a wonderful testimony to a very special pigeon. It seems like there are always those birds that get under your skin and into your heart. He certainly seems to have enjoyed the marvelous life you provided for him, especially all the girls to flirt with!

Maggie,
I am so very sorry for your loss! Ringo was a beautiful little guy. He sure appears to be very healthy in his picture. It is hard to believe that he was once malnourished. It is amazing what love can do! Feather |

Hi Maggie,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Ringo had a very wonderful and happy life, and that is a testimony to your wonderful supportive and loving care of him. He had a terrific life, that many birds never get a chance to have, because of your love and devotion. Sending a BIG hug and prayers to comfort you at this time. |

Maggie, Ringo turned out to be a very handsome guy with your love and care. I'll bet he was never short of admiration from his ladies. It is so sad that you have lost two of your most special pigeons. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
