Simon - 12/14/01 - 9/29/06She was the ideal pigeon. She was the kind people want to share their lives with. She was loving, friendly, and never a trouble maker. She was my girl.
Lewis picked her up at the bridge on a cold December day. She was very young but fat for her age at 224 grams. Still had fuzz on her head. Couldn't fly at all for a few weeks. She had a little rattle in her chest so we treated her for that and she got ok. She stayed in the house with us until spring and would "help" me with the housework. Of course we planned to release her but she was too tame, and, besides, I just couldn't part with her. We put her in the aviary and she got along very well with all the others and selected Onslow as her mate. He was a little guy born in our aviary and is as tame as Simon so we were pleased that they connected. Oddly, they never had babies - went through motions but I don't ever remember her laying but 1-2 eggs. I loved going to the aviary and "sitting" with all the pigeons but the great joy was having Simon (and Onslow) fly to me and sit on my shoulders. They never failed to do that. Simon preened me, kissed me and, I know, loved me as much as I did her. I read over my notes about Simon and at some point that first spring I put a note "need to put a big star beside this one...can tell she is very special". And, she was. She was my number one buddy and I'll miss her terribly.

Maggie,
I'm so very sorry. Simon was a lovely bird and quite lucky to come upon your care. I'm sending you a BIG STAR to give you comfort and let you know that you are very SPECIAL! Your birds know it, and Simon rests in peace because she knows it, that her life with you was total happiness, and she wouldn't trade that time with you for anything. My sincere thoughts and wishes, and prayers go out to you, to give you comfort during these sad times. |

Maggie,
It hurts to lose any of the loved little ones, but to lose those special ones is especially hard to bear. That little bird knew she was special to you, and loved you as much as you loved her. Big hug to you. Daryl |
