squawky RIP,fly free baby

found this guy with a broken wing,i did what i could for him and passed him over to the vets and experts at middlebank rescue(scotland)he was so feisty and cheeky i really thought he had a chance and beleived he would be fine,,i got in touch with rescue centre today for an update on squawkys progress, sadly the injured wing was found to be in very poor condition and heavily infected underneath an dthe vets made decision that it would be kinder to euthanize and end his suffering,im so upset,,i only found him by chance when i used a alternative route home, according to people who lived nearby he had been around for up to 3 days,i cant imagine what the poor little guy was like,im glad i did my small bit for him, even though this rescue didnt have a happy ending, wee squawky will be missed and remembered by us,even though we only looked after him fro a short time

I found a pigeon with a broken wing a year ago and took him to Taubenklinik Essen (Pigeon clinic in Essen, Germany, where they said they would try to save the wing, but had to amputate. He is now at a re-habbers, where he can spend the rest of his life.

The decision to euthanize is sometimes determined by who will take care of the bird afterwards if he cannot be released to the wild.

I think it is sometimes hard to make a decision for a pigeon who cannot speak. We try to do the best we can.

I am so sorry. It is horrid when that happens.

I'm very sorry to read about little Squawky. You are to be commended for trying to save him.

Rescue and rehab work can be very sad sometimes.

I have often said that it doesn't really matter how long you have a pigeon, or any animal/bird that you are trying to help, the hurt is still bad.
