Zipper rest in PeaceA couple of years ago we received a phone call from our daughter in law that she had found a fox squirrel that had been abused by some kids after being hit by a car. We picked up the squirrel and brought her home where Bev treated her and found the necessary resources to help her recover as best as she could.
Bev named her Zipper because of the way she would zip around in her cage with the limited use of her hind legs and back problem due to the accident, Bev became her sole caretaker, but she was part of the family to us. Zipper passed away unexpectedly late tonight. She seemed to have a cold going on, and she was given a warm bath last night and her eyes cleaned, as they were sealed shut. She seemed to have a loss of appetite as well in recent days, but we assumed it was just her winter mode that she went through last winter. I got a call while at work that Zipper seemed to be drifting away. While on the phone, Bev heard her gasp her last breath of air, and saw her lay her head down peacefully. We are grateful for the opportunity that God gave us to have a squirrel in our life. She taught us much and was a joy to have her as a part of our lives. She was surely one of His creatures and feel that she was brought to us in her time of helplessness. We held a brief prayer service with our grandsons and will make the necessary steps to cremate her after Christmas. Many of you knew of our beloved Zipper and felt a need to inform you of our loss. Zipper we love you and will miss you. You shall always be in our hearts. God bless you. Good-bye. Last edited by Victor; 2nd May 2008 at 10:28 PM. |

Poor little Zipper, I''m so sorry she's gone and for you losing her. She was a lucky little girl to have found kindness and compassion and a warm loving home to live out her life. Bless you.

Victor,
I'm so, so sorry about Zipper. It's never a good time to say goodbye to our pets, but this happening so close to Christmas seems to make it even more heartbreaking. Linda |

Bev and Victor,
While I didn't have the pleasure of getting to know Zipper I know he was a very lucky guy to have been part of your family - and from your comments I'm guessing your family was lucky to have been part of his world. My heartfelt sympathies for you loss. May he rest in peace. |

Bev and Victor,
What a blessing you were both to this little'un and she to you, in return. I am so sorry for her loss, what a hole in your household now. Bet you will be blessed with another "special needs" critter before the end of 2008, Zipper will know just where to send your new kid, and when. Daryl |

Victor, this brings tears to my eyes. I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am, especially for Bev who loved Zipper so much and took such good care of her.
Zipper had a wonderful life with a wonderful family. Big hug.

Since learning about Zipper, I always think of you and Bev when I watch the squirrels that nest and feed in my yard. One in particular is very special to me and we have a definite relationship...in squirrel terms, of course.
I'm so sorry about Zipper's passing.

Victor,
Condolences to you and your family on the passing of your squirrel Zipper. I didn't know him, but I know you and your family, and I am sure he had a full life with all of you. May the rest of your holidays be filled with as much cheer as is possible, otherwise. Larry

Oh noooo, Victor and Bev! I am SO SORRY to hear about Zipper's passing!
The only thing keeping me from being MORE upset, is KNOWING that Zipper, because of the timing of her passing...will be watching over you and your family even though you will miss her "physical" presence! And, I also agree with Daryl, that if a "special needs" one is meant to be for your family, Zipper will be a guiding force. I so FIRMLY believe that only the physical body dies...the spirit/soul lives on for ALL...and how do I know this? J..u..s..t out of the corner of my eye, I can see Zipper "winking" at me! Definitely, a MOST extraordinary squirrel! Zipper will continue to live on in our/your heart and memories...especially whenever I read about Paws (Jim's) adventures with Norman, the Alaska squirrel! With LOVE and HUGS Shi |
