What an absolutely gorgeous bird!!!

Thank you so much for taking this bird in and offering him/her a forever home.

What a wonderful happy ending for at least one of this AGSG tragedy.

Best Wishes,
Louise

I thought maybe a tumbler with the feathers on the legs. They were the only birds I saw like that. But, then again, I'm no expert!

Is the light color in the eyes normal? His other eye on the left side is closed a bit more, I think he may have brused it. He can still see out of it, but I imagine it smarts a bit.

Is there anyway I can get new bands for him? I'd hate to lose him now at this point.

He walked up to my husband in the cage this morning and we let him fly around in the basement a little. He was bobbing his head a bit and seems in much better spirits today. It's refreshing that my husband has taken a likeing to him. usually he's saying "oh no not another animal"....I'm a sucker for strays I guess.

If we were to keep him inside, we are both gone all day. Would it be better if we did get another to keep him company, or not? I would probably want to keep him outside in the summer but not during the winter. Even my dogs have a heated/AC'd kennel. So there is no problem with spoiling the bird.

I've never done pigeon names before, I'm a dog person for the most part. Maybe we'll call him "Spot"! or "Rusty"! LOL!

There's always "Count Chocula" if we stick to the cerial theme!

"Autum" would be nice too.

is there anyway to tell if he's a boy or girl?

Hey, wait a minute, I have a pijjie named Rusty. LOL. That's not so rediculous. The ridiculous one is the one we named Katie. Turned out to be a Male. Guess generic names are best.

Hi Hutchinson, you could have the bands cut off as the ''owner'', I'm sure wouldn't give two hoots. You could get a snap-on band with your info on it to replace them.
Just a thought, since you are in MI, you might PM EgypSwiftLady and see about getting your pigeon a companion or two ... or three ...or ?????

I wouldn't worry too much about taking the band off. It does show that the birds belongs to someone and isn't just a stray..........not that anyone would think a bird that pretty is a stray to begin with, but a snap band with your info along with the band he has already would go a long ways in getting him back to you if he got away somehow.
We need one of our resident experts to come look at the picture and give us a breed. Knowing where the bird came from and how many 1000's of birds were involved in this mess, it wouldn't surprise me if he's a mixture of two or three breeds. Don't think keeping the breeds separate was a very big priority.

Many, many thanks for deciding to keep this gorgeous pigeon. They are a delight and I don't believe you will ever regret your decision.

As to this forum - it is the very best there is - informative, entertaining, and sometimes a little grumpy, but I know I love it and all the members.

We've been thinking about doing just that. But just a couple to keep eachother company. I'm not set up for a lot of birds. (yet) I've no interest in breeding or racing.

how about "Latte" as in creamy coffee.... about the right color right?

Since Rusty is taken

SEVIN POWDER works well for lice or mites.

(Sevin comes in powder or spray)

Please make sure that you cover the bird's head when treating. Keep it out

of his eyes, and beak/nostril areas.

Sevin power can be found at most good hardware stores.

Oh, I like Latte. Wish I'd thought of that one. Nice ring to it. And a beautiful bird. And it can go either way. Male or Female. LOL.

Latte is perfect!....did you find a feed store or livestock store in your area? you may find a feed just for pigeons at a feed store, not a pet store...
